Apple has used Myriad quite a bit: "What the hell is Apple doing with Adobe Myriad? For the first time since its Gill Sans-based NewtonŽ branding initiative, Apple is forsaking its trademark "Apple Garamond" typeface in the launch of a new product line. That's right: Apple's new "eMac" product supposedly aimed exclusively at schools isn't being advertised with Apple's signature font, a custom version of Garamond Light Condensed, but instead with the terribly more generic Adobe Myriad Roman. But this isn't just about simple marketing materials, comrades! Not only is Myriad being used for the marketing campaign, but the font is front and center on the product itself -- the "eMac" logo has been done in Myriad, too, and is for the first time placed above the CRT display. All of this suggests that the fontshift is a top-down decision from Johnny Ive -- or perhaps even Chairman Jobs himself." Mired http://www.mired.com/mac/mac_04_29_2002.html Here's an example of Myriad in an advertisement (the words "Ultimate speed"): SpyMac http://www.spymac.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5495&size=big Adobe uses Myriad and Minion as its corporate fonts; Myriad is used on the splash screen of Adobe Acrobat. |

Although it's not a title, a few (possibly all) of the O'Reilly books use Myriad Condensed for the headings (example: Learning Cocoa with Objective-C's Colophon page http://www.oreilly.de/catalog/learncocoa2/colophon.html) The book "Stop Stealing Sheep and find out how type works" (a great book) has its cover title (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.swipe.com/COVERS/Stopco.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.swipe.com/StopCo.htm&h=338&w=226&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dstop%2Bstealing%2Bsheep%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG) in Myriad and also uses Myriad as the font for the sidebars and such throughout the book. Being a multiple master font, 13 varieties are uesd within the book, and two are used on the cover. On page 63 of my first edition copy, it is referred to as a "real workhorse", saying that it isn't glamorous but rather used daily by designers and typesetters. The font isn't supposed to stand out, but rather be nameless, without identity. Therefore, it generally isn't used in titles. Hope this helps, Christopher Harris |
