Hi lindseyl!

I need a little more information before answering...

Can I assume by 'national' you mean US viewers?

Ratings are generally collected by week... Is there a particular time
period you're interested in?

Thanks, I look forward to working on the question!

Hello lindseyl!

Thanks for the interesting question. Although finding the answer was a
bit more difficult than I thought, I finally found it at Zap2it.com

Zap2it.com
http://tv.zap2it.com/news/ratings/syndication/020519syn.html

So, according to this TV portal, the rating for the Rosie O'Donnell
show on the week of 05/13/02 to 05/19/02 was 2.6, meaning that it was
seen in 2,741,000 households.

Unfortunately, this is the only source I found for this information.
TV Marketing research is mostly conducted by Nielsen Media:
http://www.nielsenmedia.com

but they definitely won't give away the TV ratings of shows for free.

If you're interested in Rosie O'Donnell's show, you might want to
visit its home page at
http://rosieo.warnerbros.com/pages/rosieo/home.jsp

Or, if you want to find out what's the national viewership for other
show, try
http://tv.zap2it.com/news/ratings/

For this search I used the terms
"rosie o'donnell" viewership
"rosie o'donnell" nielsen ratings

I hope this answers your question. If you need further information,
please request a clarification, I'll be more than happy to search for
more details.

Regards,

elmarto-ga

Do you know how many people they usually say are in each household?
Because household and viewership numbers are slightly different in
that they count each person in the household rather than a household =
1. Just wondering... If you don't know that's fine. Good job! Thank
you so much.

According to census data available at the University of Virginia, the
average number of persons per household in the USA is 2.66 (although
this is a 1988 figure, it shouldn't be too different today). So
2,741,000 x 2.66 = 7,291,060 people. Of course, the fact that a
household has their TV set tuned to Rosie O'Donnell's show, doesn't
mean that all the members of the family are actually watching it; but
then again, there's no survey measuring the exact number of people
watching the show.

I hope this is the clarification you were expecting. If it's not,
please let me know.

Neilsen ratings are public and are published in television trade
magazines and newspapers weekly. I havent looked on the
internet...but surely they are there. More detailed demographic
imformation is not public and is sold to advertisers and
programmers...but the general number of veiwers is very much public
information.

Hi Lindseyl,

Here's an article that talks about the history of the show and recent
changes in its ratings:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/entertainment/DailyNews/rosieodonnell112000.html

Here's a link to a list for the week elmarto-ga cited, where you can
see how other shows stacked up, based on information from Nielsen
Media Research, King World, and Paramount Television:

Enjoy!
