Hi Annie,

Good day and thanks for your question.

There are various types of IRAs which have been introduces at
different times.

IRA or traditional IRA, which stands for Individual Retirement
Arrangement, was created in 1974

Roth IRA was created as part of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, and
was introducted in 1998.

The Coverdell IRA (formerly known as Education IRA) was introduced in
July 2001.

In 1971, President Nixon proposed that workers be allowed to defer
from taxable income an amount of earnings set aside in an IRA. IRAs
were first authorized by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act
(ERISA) of 1974 (P.L. 93-406) for workers not covered by employer
pension plans.
