Hello Dood-ga,
No one can give you a definitive answer, of course. Everything
depends on the condition of the ship, the details of delivery,
operational costs, and so on.
However, there is a site that can provide you some credible guidance
on the types of prices involved in marketing cargo ships.
At the following site:
www.shipwanted.com
they have about 100 cargo ships listed for sale, from prices ranging
from a few thousand dollars, to over a million dollars.
The ships for sale can be seen here:
http://www.shipwanted.com/shipsaleadsgrid.cfm
and you can select "Cargo" from the "Filter" list (at the top of the
page) to see the for-sale records of all the cargo ships.
You can sort the list by clicking on the column headings -- such as
sorting them by price, weight, date built, etc.
Ship length is not one of the sortable headers, but ships in the range
of about 1,000 DWT are generally 60-80 meters (about 180 to 240 feet)
in length...this seems the class most relevant to your interests.
Ships in this weight category are priced in the range of $130,000 to
$429,000, which should give you a starting range for thinking through
the appropriate value of the ship you are interested in.
By exploring the other offerings at this site, I think you will find a
good deal of valuable information that will add to your perspective.
But I would re-iterate the point that neilzero made below...unless you
can get detailed information on the ship, and are absolutely
comfortable that you understand what you are buying into, I would
suggest keeping your bid very low, or perhaps walking away all
together.
I hope this is the information you needed. If anything is unclear, or
needs additional explanation, don't hesitate to post a Request for
Clarification, and I'll be glad to assist you further. |
