I live in eastern PA and would like to buy EITHER a portable radio OR an AM antenna for my stereo that would enable me to pick up KDKA-Pittsburgh with a clear signal. I'd say I am roughly 220 miles from Pittsburgh. I am willing to spend up to $100 but prefer to spend about $40. What is the best solution @ $40 AND at $70 AND at $100? Please be specific regarding brands, item #s, and where to purchase. Also please provide sufficient explanation with respect to various alternatives. Note: I tried a GE Superadio III @ $41.99 and was disappointed. Couldn't get a good signal at 1020 on the AM dial. |

Shikibobo - I had a similar problem in Seattle, where hills often block clear reception. So we went to several retailers, thinking that there would be a signal booster or amplified antenna which might solve the problem. Instead, one of the Best Buy employees suggested using our cable TV feed -- and installing a signal splitter to get radio (as well as TV) signals to our amplifier. It works well, except that the cable TV company's system doesn't capture the entire radio bandwidth and we don't get the best signal for our favorite station. Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |
