How do I import an MS Word document into Quark Xpress? I have a
document with pictures that I need to put into Quark for printing
11x17 booklets. The <a
href="http://vortex.org/~alatar/Distributor-8-page.ZIP">document in
question</a> is rather large (14Mb). This is pretty simple given that
Quark has MS Word import filters but for some reason I can't figure it
out. "Get text" command doesn't get me the results I need. |

Hi,
Does this sound like your problem?
The MS Word Filter version 3.1 lets you import a MS Word for Windows
document with a .doc suffix, but the file imports incorrectly, with
lots of random ASCII and Next Column characters.
This problem only occurs when importing Word for Windows documents
brought to the Mac via PC exchange.
If not, can you please give us more information about your system, are
you running Mac OS or Windows (what version)? Do you get an error
message? If not what do you mean by: "Get text" command doesn't get me
the results I need."? What happens?
Thanks.

MS-Windows only, no Macs here.
By "get text doesn't work", I mean it doesn't import the document. I
need to import the entire document, which includes images. I don't
think "get text" is the command I need. Usually, with most products
I've used, there's an "Import" command under File, or else an
auto-conversion takes place when you Open an unfamiliar file type. I
just can't find out where the "Import" command is. I would think
(famous last words) that importing MS Word docs into Quark would be
fairly common. The XTensions manager reports the MS-Word 6-2000
filter is working correctly.
The results of "get text" are, well, it just extracts the text. It's
an 8-page document and I end up with 5 pages of messed-up formatting.
No crazy characters though.
