Question ID: 208215
How can a friend of mine who is visually impaired create a crosshair
cursor which will more easily allow him to navigate across the screen
to the point of intersection of the cursor? - at present he has great
difficulty finding the cursor - if the curser arms extended to the
edge of the screen he would be able to locate it more easily. If you
can help perhaps you would give me an estimate of the cost - many
thanks

If your friend uses a MacIntosh computer, then there is a
program which offers, among other features, a fullscreen
crosshairs cursor. The software is called InLarge, and it
costs $295. If he doesn't have a Mac, then perhaps another
researcher can find this feature amidst the software
available for Windows computers. What system does he have?

This doesn't answer the question, but if you can't find what you seek
at a decent price, you might check out Windows XP. It has a wide
choice of cursors, some of which are quite large and quite visible.
It also has a feature that will place a shrinking circle around the
cursor if the user presses the control key -- the idea is that the
circle focuses the reader's eye on the cursor. The settings are in
the Control Panel under Mouse.

Hi yor,
If your friend uses Microsoft Windows, most version comes with
accessibility support. Just open it in the Control Panel, then go to
the Display tab. Enable High Contrast to help your friend see the
screen better. As mvguy noted, Windows XP has a great array of
pointers for the cursor. If I remember correctly, previous versions
of Windows also allow users to customize how their cursor should look:
Go to the control panel, open Mouse, then go to the Pointers tab.
Choose a theme that's large or extra large, or if you prefer,
customize the normal select into a crosshair. These directions are
for Windows XP, but if you give the version of your friend's computer,
I might be able to give directions more tailored to your friend's
computer.
