Question ID: 208551
RECENTLY I HAVE PURCHASED A TABLE AT A GARAGE SALE AND I CAN NOT FIND
ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THEM.
IT IS A BEAUTIFUL TABLE THAT LOOKS LIKE IT MAYBE MAGHONY,ROSEWOOD OR
WALNUT, IT
HAS A DARK REDDISH BROWN COLOR.
THE TABLE HAS LEGS THAT ARE APPROX.14" LONG INCLUDING A 3/4 INCH STEEL
CASTER.
THE DIAMETER OF THE LEGS ARE APPROX. 2IN. AT THE TOP TO ABOUT 3/4 AT
THE BOTTOM WHERE THE CASTER IS ATTACHED.THEY ARE CIRCULAR C0LUMS THAT
ARE FLUTED VERTICLY, (6 LEGS 4 STATIONARY AND 2 ADJUSTABLE ) TO
ACCOMADATE THE UNFOLDING OF THE TABLE. AT THE TOP OF THE LEG ABOVE THE
FLUTES IT IS SQUARE, AND ALSO AT THE BOTTOM JUST ABOVE THE CASTER. SO
THE LEG IS SQUARE ON TOP,CIRCULAR FLUTED AND THAN SQUARE AGAIN AT THE
BOTTOM.
THE TABLE IS APPROX. 5' IN DIAMETER WHEN OPENED. IN OPENED POSTION
THE TABLE TOP IS CIRCLE EXPOSING A 1" HOLEIN THE MIDDLE. WHEN
EXTENDING THE LEGS TO OPENTHE TABLE A DRAWS COMES INTO VEIW. IN THE
DRAW A 1" THICK APPEARS THAT CAN BE PLACED IN A 12" OPENING WHEN THE
TABLE IS IN THE OPEN POSTION. WHEN THE LEGS ARE PUSHED IN IT ASSUMES A
HALF ROUND POSTION THAT PUSHS UP AGAISNT THE WALL AND LOOKS LOVELY.
THE CENTER DISC CAN BE STORED UNDER WHEN IT IS RETRACTED.
2 LEGS ARE BUILT ON A MECANISUM THAT RETRACTS UNDER THE TABLE AND IS
PULLED OUT TO SUPPORT THE TABLE IN AN OPENED POSTION. AROUND THE
PERIMITATER OF THE TABLE
IS A 4" FACING. THE TOP OF THE TABLE IS COVERED WITH LEATHER PANELS
EACH TRIMED IN GOLD SROLLING AND TRIMED WITH WOOD. THE LEATHER APPEARS
TO HAVE A BURL WOODLOOK WITH COLORS RANGING FROM DARK BROWN TO GOLD.
IN AN OPEN POSTION THE TABLE IS ALL WOOD NO LEATHER ON TOP. WHEN YOU
TURN THE TABLE OVER IT SAYS.... HEIRLOOM WEIMAN TABLES QUALITY
773-9354 WE ALSO HAVE A MATCHING SMALL SQUARE TABLE WITH A LEATHER
TOP AND UNDER ONE IT SAYS
WEIMAN 904-8400

THANK YOU SO MUCH WE ARE JUST DYING TO KNOW MORE. PLEASE GIVE ME
LINKS TO FOUND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS MANUFACTURER AND THE ERA.

THANKS AGAIN,
NORMA EIDEM

Hello Norma,

I am posting this as a comment for now since I was not able to find as
much information as I would have liked.

In 1979, Bassett acquired the Weiman Company in Christiansburg, Va.,
to make and market very stylish furniture for fine furniture and
department stores as well as decorators.

My Hart specializes in American antique furniture from the
1920's-1950's era!

They carry a Drum Table manufactured by the Weiman Company

“The elegant flame mahogany drum table pictured on this page was
manufactured by the Weiman Company. The Weiman Company has since been
acquired by Basset to manufacturer and market very stylish furniture
for fine furniture and department stores as well as decorators”

From Google Newsgroups:

“I am trying to find a cocktail table to match two end tables that I
have. They are made by the Weiman Furniture Company out of NY in the
late 30's or early 40's. My grandmother gave them to me and she has
since passed away and never told me when she bought them. (I have done
my research and Weiman does not make furniture anymore from what I
have been told). “ http://groups.google.com/groups?q=antiques+OR+antique+Weiman&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=36255A8D.E70B4E82%40mw.mediaone.net&rnum=4

From Furniture World Magazine:

“ I saw a very nice looking low table with a white marble top at a
thrift store near me. The name on the underside of the table was
"Heirloom Wieman" with the number 6-1900. Can you tell me anything
about this company or direct me to a web location that might?”
“You can call Weiman, located in Christiansburg, VA to see if they
have a website 540-382-1401... But you probably won't find much useful
information. Weiman has been in business for a long time and sells
quality contemporary bedroom, dining, occasional and upholstered
furniture. -Russell/ FURNITURE WORLD MAGAZINE”
