Subject:
Personal (as opposed to business) telephone directory.
Question:
I need to have access to a telephone directory that can be searched by
name (last, first), by address, or by phone number for the county of
Queens in New York State.
The directory has to be in computerized form, not printed. It can be a
site on the Internet, or a CD that can be purchased.
The question consists on how to get access to such directory.
I am willing to pay for the use of the directory separately from this
question.

Hello--

I have carefully researched your question and have your answer. All of
the phone directories I will lead you to are free of charge but are
powerful.

To conduct this research, I searched the following terms:
phone directory name address phone

My search produced a number of online directories that fit your needs.
You may view the results of my search online. The link is
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=phone+directory+name+address+phone

The first - and perhaps the best - is Anywho. This allows you to have
access to any telephone directory across the United States - including
Queens County. You may search by name, address, and phone number. The
link is http://www.anywho.com/

WhitePages.com is equally as good. And also allows you access to any
phone directory in the country. The link is http://www.whitepages.com/

Switchboard.com is not quite as versatile. But it is still helpful.
With Switchboard, you may search for a name in a particular city or
state. The link is http://www.switchboard.com/

If you primarily want to search using only a phone number to find out
who is the registered user, I have found ReversePhoneDirectory.com
useful. The link is http://www.reversephonedirectory.com/

Of course you may search the results of my search, mentioned above, to
find any other phone directories that might fit your needs.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions or need any
clarification, please don't hesitate to hit the "clarify" button.

Thank you,

I need to get the phone number and the name of the subscriber, by
entering the address. I know there were such printed directories a few
yearas ago. Your answer does not seem to include this option. Am I
correct?
Thank you.

I do not seem to be able to be able to enter an address to get back
the phone number and the name of the subscriber. In my opinion this is
not a complete answer to my question.

Clarification of Answer by darrel-ga on 26 May 2003 16:36 PDT
Actually, yes. You may search for a phone number or name by an address
only by using WhitePages.com. Just click on "lookup by address" at the
top.

Again, the link is http://www.whitepages.com

Another good reverse address search service is ReverseAddress.com.
This is particularly good, because you may search several revrse
address search services at the same time.

The link for that is http://www.reverseaddress.com

If you need any further clarification, please don't hesitate to ask!

I am sorry. To use the sites you mentione I must know the name of the
person and the address.
The question asks Can I post only the address to get the name and
phone number?
So far I have not been able to do this.

Clarification of Answer by darrel-ga on 27 May 2003 16:51 PDT
Could you please tell me which link you are using that requires both a
name and an address?

I've used ReverseAddress.com on many occasions and have never had to
enter a name. I just tried it again, it doesn't ask for a name.

The link for that is http://www.reverseaddress.com

I've also used WhitePages.com many times. And it still allows you to
search only needing an address. I will give you the direct link to
this feature this time, in hopes that helps.
http://www.whitepages.com/address-lookup

Please, let me know if you're able to get it to work for you. And if
not, please show me the URL (Internet Address) you are using that is
giving you troubles. And I'll help you.

I am sorry, but at http://www.reverseaddressdirectory.com/ the Reverse
Address Directory links you to a site that tries to sell you a
program, Detective 8 for $ 29.00. This is a gimmick program not
connected to substantial databases. Several months ago I tried it and
it is only a big disappointment. If there is such thing as a true
address reverse service at the site, I could not get to it.

At http://www.whitepages.com/address-lookup there is a way to input
addresses and supposedly get the name and phone number back. I tried
about ten addresses including my own with no luck at all. It kept
telling me that there was no such address. Each time it also suggested
to link to US Search, where the search price starts at $9.95. I might
be doing something wrong and need training, but my feeling at this
point is that this “service” is only a hook to link you to fee paying
search providers.

I am sorry, but do not feel that this satisfies the question I asked.

Hello--

It sounds as though you're dissatisfied with the service of those
sites, not necessarily with the thoroughness of my answer.

Your question was looking for these directories... and you stated that
"I am willing to pay for the use of the directory separately from this
question."

If you were not looking for those particular sites, I wish you had
mentionted that in your question.

Since you are not satisfied thus far, I am including a few other
options for you, though. Because I'd like for you to be satisfied.

You may want to consider purchase a copy of NetDective 8.0. I use this
and find it helpful. You may access this software at
http://www.netdetective2001.com/

I have also in the past used 555-1212.com. The link is
http://www.555-1212.com

I haven't tried this one. But again it's another reverse address
search to answer your question. The link i
http://www.peoplesearch.net/peoplesearch/peoplesearch_reverse_street_address.html

You may also conduct a reverse address search at Findlaw.com. This is
a reputable site and is used by many researchers. The link is
http://www.findlaw.com/directories/reverse.html

Here's yet another pay site that conducts reverse address searches.
The link is https://secure.bestpeoplesearch.com/service/10/search.asp

If none of these are to your satisfaction, you may view others in the
search I conducted. I searched the following terms:
reverse address search

The link to this search is
://www.google.com/search?q=reverse+address+search&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&start=0&sa=N

I hope this answers your question. If you don't believe it does,
please feel free to ask for further clarification. I'm happy to
satisfy.

Also, if you need help complaining to those sites you've paid money to
but weren't satisfied with - or to their corresponding appropriate
government agencies - I can help provide you with the appropriate
people/agencies to complain to.

If an address is not listed with the directories that these particular
companies search, it will not come up when you search their database.
For instance, non-listed addresses/individuals likely won't be found
in many of these directories. And no two directories are the same.

Clarification of Answer by darrel-ga on 27 May 2003 19:19 PDT
There are also several offline ways you can find out the name of
someone if you have an address.

If the person owns the property, you may visit the County Title Office
or County Auditor where the address is. A representative there should
be able to show you the name and other corresponding information
attached to the address and property.

Depending on what other information along with the address you have -
you may be able to access the name of the individual through your
state Department of Transportation by accessing driving records. Each
state has different rules as far as what information you need about
someone in order to obtain these records.

And the U.S. Postal Service may be able to give you a name you can
match with a corresponding address.

Thank you for such a tremendous effort. So far I have tried all the
sites you list. The only promising one is http://www.555-1212.com.
I requested a demo from them before signing up for their subscription.
I hope it works, because I find their fees reasonable. Some of the
other sites charge as much as $67.00 per search and I believe this is
irrational.

Please let me know how those work for you and let me know if there is
anything else I can help with.

al68-ga rated this answer:4 out of 5 stars and gave an additional tip of: $5.00
The work the researcher did was extensive and commendable. I am very
thankful. Apparently the service I am looking for does not exist. The
places that claim to offer it, do not deliver acceptable results at a
reasonable price.
I accept the question as having been answered, and I would like to add
a tip of $5.00

Thank you very much.
