My mid-life crisis is a little different from most:
instead of a sports car, I want to buy a convertible pickup
or other convertible truck.

As far as I can tell, the only from-the-factory convertible pickup 
was the Dodge Dakota (circa 1990).  Very difficult to find.

A 5-star answer would include five links that give me new
ideas.  These links could be to conversion shops (which chop the 
top off regular trucks), used truck sites on the Internet, 
government surplus, etc.

This is an open-ended question---basically anything that gets
me closer to buying one of these unusual vehicles would be great.

Choo-choo use to do a conversion on the full size Ford Bronco making
it an extended four door (much like a Suburban) and keeping the
removable back cover intact.
