The American Medical Association was very opposed to the passing of a
medicare bill in 1965. In an effort to campaign against the Medicare
and gain public support they hired an actor to sing a song (album?) to
oppose medicare. The struggling actor at the time was Ronald Reagan.
Where is this song, is there any where i could access the lyrics or
hear a version of the song he sang. A recent web article posted
5/27/03 gives a little more information.

A title, lyrics, anything would be extremely helpful!

Hello melsh79-ga,

The album was entitled "Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized
Medicine". (Can you imagine someone calling Medicare "socialized
medicine" today?)

The Social Security Administration confirms that this is the correct
title.

"Guide To Social Security Archives: Papers of Nelson Cruikshank"
[under "Container List - M96-082"]

I have found it offered for sale in two places.

"Socialism" [under "Reagan, Ronald"]
Xerxes Books

"Spoken Word and Celebrity Records at Vinyl Revival" [under "Reagan,
Ronald"]
Vinyl Revival

It was once available for download from the Campaign for America's
Future. Unfortunately, the recording is no longer available on its
site. Perhaps you can contact this organization to see if you can
download the file.

I hope that this information is helpful.

The recording was apparently not a song, but a spoken-word pitch by
Reagan against the adoption of Medicare legislation. See the
paragraph about 3/4 of the way down this linked page, which is an
"oral history" interview with an early administrator of the Social
Security Administration:
