Hi! I'm trying to figure out the correlation between AIDS deaths in
the US and cases of Syphilis in the US over the last 20 years (or as
far back as the AIDS stats go). So, I need help with
1) the number of AIDS deaths in the US by year for the last 20 years
(or as far back as the AIDS stats go)
2) the number of cases of Syphilis in teh US by year over the last 20
years (or as far back as the AIDS stats go)

Ideally I would like to get stats in numbers and not ratios (x per
100,000). Also, it would be really great if these stats were broken
down by gender. Thanks!

Hello chumley-ga,

For AIDS I have located:

Table: Number of AIDS deaths in the United States by year (1981-2001)
This table was updated on September 24, 2002 so it is the most
up-to-date data available.

Table: Number of AIDS cases by gender but in 6 year intervals not by
year. 1981-1987, 1988-1992, 1993-1995, 1996-2000

For Syphilis I located:

Table: Syphilis cases by year 1941-2001

Graph: Syphilis male to female rate ratios 1981-2001

Would the above information be a satisfactory answer to your question?

Thanks,
Bobbie7-ga

Hi Bobbie-7ga:
This sounds great. I just thought of one more piece of information
that would be interesting to add to my graph: the number of new cases
of HIV by year. Ideally this info would also be broken down by
gender. Do you have this info? Do I need to pay extra for it?

Thanks!
Jennifer
