Regarding prosecution, it would aid a Researcher to know the
state/province in which you live.

Hi icebowl,

It would also be helpful to know what it is that makes you confident
the hacking occured from that particular email address.

email address is worthless 99.999999999% of the time. Even if it's
the right email addy, there is no way to prove it was never spoofed.

You will need IP address, then find out that network and then find out
what login was used, then you may end up with another IP address that
you have to find out the network for, and repeat....

However somewhere along the line an educated hacker (HAXOR ;) ) would
have edited a log file on some machine somewhere and either removed
himself, or changed his login to another...

To prosecute / seek punishment you will have to first figure out what
damages and losses you occured, then check the laws of your
land/state/county/city etc (and even the laws of the person who hacked
you...many times these *really* come from nations where hacking is not
deemed illegal and you are blamed for having an insecure machine),
then start calling and open an investigation and then if warranted
they will handle all the prosecution.

9 times out of 10 you will just be told to upgrade your security and
add a firewall and nothing can be done for you.
