Question ID: 21002
Where would I go to find out specifics on GroupWise (version 6),
specifically:

In a default (as in out-of-the-box, basic) Groupwise installation,
what are the file names of the data files, their location and
structure of the files (SQL, DB, some other data file type), ODBC
specifications (if any)?

I had asked this previously (see
http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=18745) in
question # 18745, but I thought I'd repost this since the question has
really changed, and I thought this might be cleaner.

Thanks everyone!

Hi, and I'm glad to see you again.

The GroupWise program is fairly well documented on the Novel website.
They have documents on the API, MAPI, and the Object API as well as
XML Integration Services. This can be found at :

http://developer.novell.com/ndk/doc_groupwise.htm

The XML integration looks like it could make your life much easier
regarding your last question. My only comment there is that you should
be aware that XML transfers are not in any way secure, so you would
only want to make transfers between the two systems on a inside
network.

From the XML page on the link I've given you above comes this
paragraph :
------
XML Integration Services (XIS) is a set of APIs that enables any
application to act as an XML application server. It provides an event
system, a service plug-in interface, and a fully DOM 1 compliant
engine for the exchange of XML documents and data. XIS runs on the
client and/or the server and includes APIs for C++ and Java
-----

You can also find access to a number of Developer Forums for each of
the items on that page. These are areas, some of them are supported by
Novel, where developers share ideas, and experience. This would be a
great place to access later when you need more help with this product.

Another great source of information are internet User Groups. There is
probably one in your area or close to you, but don't stop there. Its
been my experience that every User Group has one guy in there that
knows just about everything and is willing to talk about it at great
length. Be attentive and you could learn a great deal in a short
amount of time.

To find these User Groups try this search on the Google :

+"GroupWise" +"User Group"

One site I found using that search, which looks like a great resource
for you is here :
Tek-Tips Forums

The common term for a Database layout on a system is "schema" for
future reference. Searching for the GroupWise Schema I found the
following sites of information.

http://www.nwconnection.com/2001_08/grpup81/

This is a PDF document which talks about upgrading from 5.5 to 6.0 and
where new files, and file types are suppose to go. This is probably
something you will want to read and be familiar with.

http://www.nwconnection.com/2001_08/pdf81/group81.pdf
Remember that this is a PDF document, so you might want to try Save
Link As instead of opening it.

Here is just about everything on the Database Administration

http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/gw6/index.html?gw6_admin/data/a8n802e.html

The rest of the available on-line documentation is here :
http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/gw6/index.html?gw6_install/data/aaez32y.html

I hope this answers your question but if you need clarification please
don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks
