Question ID: 210179
I'm trying to build a small yellow pages index for my hometown.
There are many businesses across the town from various categories .

I want to find an ENGLISH free-non-copyrighted database I can use*
that will have a "yellow-pages" like classification-tree.

*Use in commercial enviourment, without copyright infrigation.

The tree must include most of the available sectors, including
sub-categories and sub-sub categories.

Here are some good examples:

1. http://yp.superpages.com/sform.phtml?SRC=&STYPE=S
(For example : Automotive > Parts Supplies, & Equipment > Tire
Dealers)

2. http://www.yellowpages.com.au/browse/browseEntry.do
(For example: Beauty / Fashion > Footwear > Footwear Repairs)

3. http://yp.yahoo.com/

The database should be prefarbly on a relational tree I can
import/export easily to my sql tables easily, otherwise - a simple
well-organized text list can help too.

Remember - the database must be non-copyrighted so I can translate it
and use it.

Thanks,

Michael

Michael2005-ga:

I'm putting this as an answer, only because the second part of
your question (the SQL request) would actually require some research.

The first part of your question legally was answered in Feist v.
Rural Telephone -- 499 U.S. 340 (1991). There is no copyright in a
purely alphabetical listing of topics, such as yellow pages.
That's all information, and I'd wager unless Yahoo or another
yellowpages listing has it setup in another way, you could copy the
information quite freely.

This is just a non-legal assertion, but figured it should be aired
none-the-less.
