Question ID: 210219
I have installed my copy of Lotus Notes Release 5 (client) on a new
computer (Windows XP) and it won't start--I get the message "notes.ini
file cannot be found in [path]" etc. Any suggestions? please not too
technical!

Have you already tried to uninstall and re-install? From a quick
outside glance it seems that the file which points to where your
software resides on your computer is corrupt/incorrect, or your
shortcut is incorrect.

Thanks for the clarification -

Hi pgrbk-ga,

I cam across this newgroup posting...it looks like the note.ini file
is stored in a different directory in release 5 of Lotus Notes:

http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=8fiivh%24bde%241%40news01bh.so-net.ne.jp&rnum=9&prev=/groups%3Fq%3D%2522notes.ini%2Bfile%2Bcannot%2Bbe%2Bfound%2522%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26hl%3Den

You will need to search for the note.ini file by going through Start
-> Search and then enter the filename. Be sure to set it to search on
your local hard drives.

If this solves your problem let me know and I'll post it as an
official answer.

Hi again,

I came across some more information related to my previous
clarification that is more descriptive:

Let me know if that does the trick :)

Just search for the file notes.ini in your hard disk and MOVE it into
your Notes folder (typically C:\Lotus\Notes). Make sure that no other
copy of notes.ini exists in your system.

Hope this helps
