radioguy,

You might want to run a virus scan, as there are a number of virii
that can cause similar problems. KazaaLite doesn't usually cause this
sort of problem, though there's a reasonable chance that a virus was
picked up from something downloaded of kazaa.

hope that helps,
jjb

Hi radioguy-ga,

Since there are several possible causes for the problem you describe,
I'll post this solution as a comment, so you can try it out:

Sometimes programs don’t close down correctly, or hang for some other
reason during the Windows shutdown process. This freezes up, or at
least significantly delays, Windows shutdown and may produce the error
message you described. If Windows is hanging because it can’t force a
program to terminate, one solution is to disable the automatic end
task logic (AutoEndTask).

This can be accomplished by running the "autoend.reg" file, which can
be found in this zip file:
http://aumha.org/downloads/autoend.zip

To be on the safe side, make sure you backup your registry first.

You can also edit this setting manually. We may perform the following
steps to disable this message and perform a force exit:

1. Click Start->Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and
the
press Enter.
2. Locate the following registry
3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
4. In the right pane find, "AutoEndTasks" (Create if not present). Set
the
Value to 1 (in stead of the default 0).

If you haven't already, it's also a good idea to install service pack
3, as this may help resolve the issue as well. You can download
service packs for Windows 2000 here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/default.asp

If these steps don't help you resolve the problem, you can always take
a look at these pages:

http://www.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/webhosting/HowTo/P116784.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b279713

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

rhansenne-ga.

Since I don't know if you are closing all your programs before you
shut down, I would suggested that you do just that. Although Windows
will try to shutdown the programs as it closes, it is not good for
either Windows or the programs. Make sure all programs are closed
before you shut down. Also, if you are using a file sharing program,
make sure that is shutdown AND make sure it is disconnected from the
Internet before shutting down. Many times these programs appear to be
closed, but are still connected. They then cause problems when
shutting down. Also, remove any spyware or adware on your computer.
You can download free programs like ad-aware and spybot to help you do
this. I've seen this kind of thing due to adware programs connecting
to the internet or trying to, and windows has a hard time shutting
those down.

I had same problem, but it's wasn't because of kazaa: some days after
installing win2000 this thing started to happen. I though this was
because of some Service pack and flushed my windows (in dos mode
deleted winnt folder, recycle bin and program files what windows had
installed). So today i reinstalled it and this thing happened on first
shutdown. I also checked my hard drives with Norton Antivirus 2002 and
no virus was found. Windows really su..., but unfortunately where's
nothing better too. Can anybody help?

I am having the same problem immediately after installing Win2000 Pro.
I do not have Kazaa. The problem occured before I installed any
applications, and continues after installing all the service packs.
Any other ideas for causes besides viruses?
