Researcher darrel-ga: I am particularly interested in the period of
Hanawalt's life that spans 1954 thru 1983.

L.L. Hanawalt was b.1-18-1898 Delaware Ohio // d. 5-26-1983 in Detroit.
AB and AM from Oberlin, PhD from Uof Michigan. To professorship at
Wayne State U in Detroit. 1929. English Dept. was his last position.
Chair of History of Wayne Project 1956 to 1968.
Last known address: 201 E. Kerby, Apt. 104, Detroit, MI.
Dorothy Miles Hanawalt, listed in WSU retirees directory (?? his wife),
lives in Traverse City.
Authored A Pace of Light: A history of Wayne State U. Hanawalt
published very little throughout his career, and otherwise accomplished
very little.
 > He is listed in Directory of American Scholars. 6th, 7th, and 8th
Editions.
 > Three reviews of the WSU History, that I have been able to find, are
all negative.
No Auth: in Choice, v5, June 1968, 536.
        G.W. Chessman, Jnl of Am. Hist., v55:1, 1968, 159.
I've misplaced the 3rd, which was the most severely critical.
 > The WSU History is listed in Am Council of Education's latest edition
of Univerisities & Colleges, for Wayne State.

A colleague from Oberlin, Clarence Hilberry, came to English Dept. WSU
in 1930. He became chairman of the dept. When Hilberry became Prexy of
the U., Hanawalt took the Chairmanship.

Re: Number of sources -- I'm new to this, thus, as many sources as I
can get. I hope to have more questions for you, when I receive your
findings. Thank you.
