What freight carriers ship small packages by ocean from Asia to USA?
Individual packages around 200 lbs are too expensive by air and by
ocean are too expensive due to all the paperwork and fees. There must
be carriers that consolodate small packages for ocean shipping. Like a
Fedex for ocean.

Hi boogles,

I'm happy to report that the FedEx Trade Networks offers Ocean-Ground
transport from Asia to the U.S.

"FedEx Trade Networks facilitates the preparation and containerization
of shipments in Asia, and manages the ocean portion of the service as
well as customs clearance and document preparation, while FedEx
Freight and FedEx Ground handle the inland distribution transportation
once shipments are cleared at U.S. container freight stations in
gateway cities."
" Shippers may also be able to cut multiple days from their overall
transit times using FedEx Trade Networks Ocean-Ground Distribution
service compared to traditional Asia-U.S. ocean ground transit times.
Commercial ocean carriers are utilized based on service, reliability
and fast transit times. The palletized or loose freight that
originates in Asia may travel by full or less than container load
shipments. Upon arrival in the U.S., the consolidated shipments are
deconsolidated at one of two gateways, which are strategically located
to maximize the next-business-day and second-business-day coverage
provided by FedEx Freight and the transit times provided by FedEx
Ground. This allows for rapid transit times as the shipments are
delivered directly to multiple recipients as LTL (less-than-truckload)
freight by FedEx Freight or as small package shipments by FedEx
Ground."

Hi Hummer

Thanks for your reply. At first I was very pleased to see Fedex in
your reply. However I called and they indicated they don't do much in
Asia - mostly Europe. I am awating further clarification from them.
And the other two sites sound to me like dime-a-dozen freight
companies. The litmus test to see if the freight company is really
consolodating via ocean in the way fedex does by air would be a price
of under $400 for 200 lbs 12"x12"x12" from Taiwan to an office in NJ
with door to door service.

Regards, boogles

Hi boogles,

Hmmm, I'm going to have another look - thanks for the additional
information. FedEx sure advertises Asia to U.S. (you must specify the
"FedEx Trade Networks") so I'm puzzled why they would say that to you.
Hang tight - I'll do my best to find you something. hummer

Boogles, did you try this number (assuming you are in Taiwan)?

I'm going to call them too - hummer

Hi again boogles,

Ok, the person I talked to on the phone said you definitely talked to
the wrong person because shipping Asia/US by ocean, door-to-door is no
problem. I tried to get a quote for you but I didn't have enough
information. She said to tell you to send an email to:
ftn_customercare@fedex.com. Include all of your information, such as
both addresses, times, contents of package, weight, size, etc etc. and
they will get back to you as soon as possible. They definitely do what
you have in mind, it will be just a matter of finding out the cost.
Please keep me updated - if this doesn't work out, we'll try to find
you something else. If you'd prefer that I contact them for you, I
will need as much information as you can think of. Good luck! hummer
