Question ID: 210507
I want help to write a question(s) to search for scholarship money or
to find a qualified, motivated researcher. I am willing to pay a %age
of the money actually found and usable.
I want to find scholarship aid for my daughter for college,
preferrably
in TN.
She has an ACT of 20
She is an insulin dependent diabetic
She is a TN resident
She seeks a degree as an Athletic Trainer or in Physical Therapy.
She would like to work/study with a college sports program
She has excellent reference letters from her high school wrestling
coaches where she was the trainer for three years and lettered.
She has attended 3 summer camps for Athletic Trainers

She has been accepted at Cumberland College in Lebanon, TN and
offerred about $4,000 in assistance per year but would need more in
order to do the full four years there and avoid a year or two of
Community College

katiesdad,

With an ACT score of 20 (roughly 50th Percentile), unless your
daughter's high-school GPA is 3.5 or higher, it is not likely that
your daughter would qualify for anything other than minority or
need-based grants.

As a diabetic, your daughter would not qualify as "disabled" unless
that condition has *greatly* impaired her mobility.

Is your daughter a member of what would be considered a "minority"
ethnic group?

Does your family income fall into the Federal Standards range
considered "need"-based?

The answers to these questions will greatly assist Researchers in
finding something that fits your requirements.

Regards,

She is white and the family would NOT likely qualify under a need
based funding plan.

We are looking to pickup several smaller scholarships from companies
or organization, or similar type things to help fund Cumberland or a
college where she could get an interview to be a trainer/manager for a
college sports team

Thanks

Hi, katiesdad!

Will she be going to college next year? If so, you will be up against
some stiff competition for money. Have you written a more extensive
letter to the college, explaining your daughter's past training
experience, your economic situation, and your need for additional
money?
I was faced with this same situation 2 years ago, and was able to
wrangle another $10,000 out of the college in the form of grants for
my daughter, beside her scholarship for ACT scores. Most of this was
based on her volunteer work.
Have you tried www.fastweb.com? Most of those scholarships require
essays and you are up against a deadline if you are considering the
fall. Have you gone to a large bookstore and looked at one of the
large scholarship books? There are all sorts of scholarships
available. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a scholarship tailored
toward a student with diabetes.
Let me know if you have tried writing a very personal letter to the
college, and I will try to look in a few books if you haven't already.
It may take a few days, however.
What is the cost of the tuition you are looking at right now, with
the scholarship? (roughly...you don't have to be too exact)
