I'm looking for a list of the nationally recognized holidays in the
United States. Also, I'm hoping to find a list of regional holidays,
the region being the SouthEastern U.S., specifically Florida.

Hi chuckatcomiclist:

Thank for the interesting question.

While there are nationally recognized holidays in the U.S., the actual
legislation for "days off" are set by the individual states.

CY2003 National Holidays - United States
URL: http://www3.kumc.edu/diversity/national/national.html
Quote: "Strictly speaking, the United States has no national holidays
since each state designates holidays through the legislative process
or by executive order. The United States Congress can legally
designate holidays for federal employees and for the District of
Columbia."

Most lists of national holidays seem to agree on the following 9 days:

January 1 New Year's Day
3rd Monday in January Martin Luther King Jr. Day
3rd Monday in February Presidents' Day
4th Monday in May Memorial Day
July 4 Independence Day
1st Monday in September Labor Day
November 11 Veterans' Day
4th Thursday in November Thanksgiving
December 25 Christmas Day

Though some also add the following:

June 14 Flag Day

However, if you are looking for a less "official" list of
celebrations, the following page is very good.

Now, for Florida, the following page lists the officially legislated
holidays:

Your research is fantastic and faster than I could have imagined.
About the only other thing I could hope for would be more regional
holidays, but if you can't find anymore, I'd still give you an
excellent rating.

Hi chuckatcomiclist:

Thanks for the kind words. The only other Florida-specific holiday
that I was able to find is "Florida State Day".

State Day
URL: http://dhr.dos.state.fl.us/symbols/day.html

It seems that each state has its own "State Day". To find them, just
replace "Florida" in the search string below with the name of the
state you want.

Hope this helps!

Additional Search Strategy (on Google):

florida state "special days"
"Florida State Day"

You're close on the list of federal holidays - Flag day is not one of
them, but Colombus day in October is.
