Question ID: 210982
I'm looking for the best price to buy all 7 series, on DVD (although
I'd consider video)
Treating HMV's list price as the control, the best I found was Amazon.
I'm baffled as to why series 1 and 5 are cheaper.

I hope you guys can help,

Thank you

Hello cherry-ga,

Based upon your references to all 7 series and HMV, and your previous
questions, I assume that you're looking for the best price in the UK.

I examined the price comparison search engines for the UK listed here:

"Regional > Europe > United Kingdom > Recreation and Sports > Home and
Garden > Consumer Information > Price Comparisons"
Google
http://directory.google.com/Top/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Recreation_and_Sports/Home_and_Garden/Consumer_Information/Price_Comparisons/?il=1

By searching for "buffy" in DVDs, I determined that three of these
search engines gave especially useful comparisons.

'Home > Dvds > Search results "buffy"'

For some reason, HMV's prices did not show up. (Perhaps its site
resists searches from the outside.) In any event, it is easy enough
to find the results from HMV by likewise searching its DVD section for
"buffy". And indeed, the prices are higher there than for several
other options.

I found the best set of prices at Play.com -- £29.99 for Series 1,
£59.99 for Series 2-5, and £57.99 for Series 6. (Series 7 is not
available yet, though you can pre-order on some sites.)

These prices are nearly matched by DVD.co.uk and Choices Direct.

There is another competitor for lowest price. While Amazon's own
prices are higher than the three sites I have listed, the "buy new"
option allows you to buy at lower prices from affiliated sellers.
(And you can "buy used" as well.)

Incidentally, Series 1 is cheaper on many sites. I suppose there
could be various reasons, but I would just be speculating. Anyway,
there must be some reason.

I was very impressed. The researcher had checked my personal history
with you, and made an informed guess that was crucial. Great.
