Just to let you know that I've been trying to find the information you
need, but it is proving difficult. There's no shortage of information
for owned the castle in the 13th century!

On Monday morning I'll make a couple of calls, unless another
researcher has found the answer to your question in the meantime.

Hello ciful

Can you tell us if you mean Hornby Castle in Lancashire, or the one in
Yorkshire?

The Lancashire castle was painted by Turner. You'll find it mentioned
halfway down this page, with a distant photo:

Here's what the Yorkshire one *used* to look like:
http://www.oldprints.co.uk/prints/yorks/43355.htm

It belonged to the Dukes of Leeds but much of it was demolished in the
1930s. However, there is still a Yorkshire "Hornby Castle" with
gardens and parkland.

I can offer an answer if your question is about the Yorkshire castle.
If you aren't certain which one you want, please tell us any details
about your interest in it which might help us find you the right
answer.

Thanks - Leli

The Hornby Castle I'm talking about is in Yorkshire - in the Lune
Valley, in Hornby, near Kirkby Lonsdale.

At last - a breakthrough!

I've found a website advertising Hornby Castle as "occasionally
available to rent for special events" alongside two holiday
properties.

For two of the three houses the contact is given as:

Mrs S E Battersby
Hornby Castle
Hornby
Nr Lancaster
LA2 8JU

The other page invites you to write to "Hornby Castle Estates".

To check whether Mrs. Battersby is indeed the owner as well as
resident at the castle, I checked out the directors of "Hornby Castle
Estates Limited" and found them listed as David and Susan Battersby:

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to request
clarification if you would like anything explained further, or if you
have trouble with any links.

Hi ciful

If we're looking for the owner of Hornby Castle in the Lune Valley,
we're actually over the border in Lancashire.

Sorry for all the complications!

I've no idea who owns the castle near Kirkby Lonsdale - let's hope
jumpingjoe-ga has some luck with his phone calls.
