Are you referring to the "court bailiff"?

Thankyou for your response
Bailiff-may be--in the script the court has stood down while the judge
makes a dicison-so the people called to court are waiting in the court
corridor
They are redirected back into the court by a marshall---according to
the script---This would be a person in uniform
What do you think-and a discription of the uniform
Thank you for the judge robe info--great
Look forward to your thoughts

Dear bd6854-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

I believe the proper term you are seeking is “court bailiff”. Marshals
usually serve Federal courts but rarely (if ever) act in the capacity
of bailiff. Some smaller town/city courts utilize the services of the
town/city Marshal as their bailiff but it is quite unlikely that this
is done in a city such as New York.

Generally, the judge dictates his bailiff’s attire. Some courts have
bailiffs who work while dressed in uniform and some prefer to have a
bailiff dressed in a business suit. Again, it is basically a matter of
preference.

As a rule, bailiffs wear a uniform and badge but do not carry a
handgun. This stems from lessons learned from the past in which the
bailiff was occasionally disarmed and the offender ended up being the
only person in the courtroom with a gun. The idea behind this rule was
that if NO ONE had a gun, there would be no guns in the courtroom at
all. It seems to have worked. A bailiff may occasionally been seen
armed with handcuffs, a baton or a stun gun but again, this is
dictated by the judge.

If the bailiff is a member of a local police department assigned to
bailiff duties (as some courts do), the bailiff of course will wear
his department uniform while performing these duties. If the bailiff
is an employee of the court, he may have a prescribed uniform for his
position. The latter appears to be the case in the city of New York.

Here is a photo of a New York court bailiff in uniform. While this
photo is part of a televised court similar to “Court TV” or “Judge
Judy”, it is realistic for all intents and purposes:
