Hi stephilix,
I worked on a previous question about mesotherapy but wasn't able to
locate a physician in Birmingham; however, there should be many more
leads on mesotherapy in California. Since this technique is quite new
in the States, I'd be very careful about any referrals. New
treatments have a tendency to bring the charlatans out of the woodwork
and many are neither technically proficient nor certified in this
procedure.
Also many physicians may be using this technique in a cosmetic versus
an orthopedic setting. Dr. Lionel Bissoon's reputation is excellent
but his is in the cosmetic realm. Your request is a bit more
difficult and I think should come directly from a physician (just my
opinion).
Doing a Medline search brings up only two pages of abstracts -- most
in French, Italian, or Dutch. If you care to check yourself, here is
the link. Just enter "mesotherapy" in the search field.

In reading about this procedure, it sounds like a French cousin to
prolotherapy which has been around in the States for a while.

Honestly, I think your best bet for a proper referral would be the
University of California-San Francisco. Sometimes the quality of
information received through a phone call hinges on the help desk at
the individual universities, so I hope UCSF has staffed theirs with an
R.N.

Another option you might consider is calling the San Francisco Medical
Society.
