Short version: Fer crap sake, just let me convert DV files into DivX.
It's the year 2003. This shouldn't be this hard!
Long version...
I thought that once I was able to capture digital video (DV), it would
be a snap to convert the massive DV Type-2 AVIs into DivX files.
Boy was I wrong.
I own a wonderful Canopus ADVC-100. I use the freeware program
"DVIO.exe" to capture video.
I want to convert the HUGE Type-2 AVIs that DVIO.exe creates into
decent-looking DivX files. (I've decided to convert my VHS library to
DivX files. No, not VCDs or SVCDs, but DivX files.)
Please find a piece of software less than $150 that is designed for
me: the geek that just wants to convert VHS to DivX. I don't want
have to become a temporary expert on what versions of what tool
convert what formats in what bitrates and other such nonsense and what
script commands to execute.
The basic features I need:...
-- It actually works. (rolls eyes)
-- Edit (setting start and end points of the new file)
-- Bitrate and resolution adjustment, IE, quality
Strongly preferred:
-- Crop
-- batch processing
-- limit CPU usage
OS: Win XP Pro
Software I've tried.....
--) Dr. Divx is PERFECT. Except it doesn't work. Basically, I'm
looking for software exactly like Dr. Divx... except working. Dr. Divx
output is completely trashed, the program is simply useless. But
feature-wise, it's exactly what I'm looking for.
--) Ulead Videostudio throws a "cannot access driver" when I try to
use DivX to share a file.
--) VirtualDub hangs and crashes when I try to choose start and end
points. It also doesn't let me crop the image.
--) Premiere is too expensive and probably to complicated anyway.
--) G Knot SEEMS like is a kludgey nightmare -- precisely what I'm
trying to avoid by posting this question. |
