Question ID: 211562
PLEASE help me sort these in TRUE CHRONOLOGICAL order, not just AIRING
order.
If the AIRING order is also the chronological order then let me know,
but no guessing, please.
What I need is to be able to put the right dvd with the right episode
in at the right time - some episodes are not related in buffy/angel
and I would just like to see those in a row without changeing to the
other series:

In Buffy, Oz leaves for LA with a ring - episode buffy x
In Angel Oz arrives with a ring - episode angel x
In Buffy, Spike leaves for LA to get the ring - episode buffy y
In Angel Spike arrives to get the ring - episode angel y
In Buffy Spike returns... - episode buffy z

Get the idea?

Thanks.

Here is the as far as I know canonical list sorted in airing order

Breaking the original list down according to the show and into
continuous sequences produces this derived list. The viewing order
should be accurate. One might quibble with the dating in a few cases,
which is subject to interpretation.

"Bachelor Party" ends with Doyle's vision of Buffy in danger that
sends Angel back to Sunnydale. "Pangs" must be the next episode in the
common chronology: Angel has rushed to Sunnydale in response to the
vision. "Pangs" is followed by the ambiguous "I Will Remember You":
Buffy goes to L.A. to confront Angel about his secret visit to
Sunnydale, but all the events after the confrontation are erased from
the timeline, and Buffy returns immediately to Sunnydale (or after
seeing her father). "The Initiative" precedes "Pangs", for it is
during "The Initiative" that Spike (Hostile 17) escapes the
underground headquarters of the Initiative. It is during "Pangs" that
Spike seeks protection with the Scoobies. Because "Pangs" fixes the
dates of the other episodes (ending Thanksgiving Thursday rather than
the air date), we must assume that "Bachelor Party" occurs immediately
prior to or during this episode. Therefore, this related series of
episodes -- "Bachelor Party", "Pangs", and "I Will Remember You" --
must have occurred during Thanksgiving Week, with a probable terminal
date of Friday. "Something Blue" is more difficult to place. It
appears to follow "I Will Remember You" serially, perhaps as early as
Friday or Saturday, but Tuesday is not an unlikely date.

The following can be viewed sequentially.

"This Year's Girl" is continuous with "Who Are You?" Buffy-in-Faith is
knocked unconscious at the end of the former, and is being taken away
by the paramedics at the beginning of the latter.

It's unclear how much time has expired between "Who Are You?" and
"Five by Five," but Giles tells Angel over the telephone in the latter
that it has been about a week, which puts FBF in the first week of
March. That pushes "New Moon Rising" back chronologically to
approximately the same date. Buffy returns directly thereafter from
L.A. ("Sanctuary") followed by Angel in "The Yoko Factor", serially
also in early March.

  076. 4-20 4ABB20 09052000 The Yoko Factor - BtVS

"Primeval" and "Restless" also must occur sometime in March, as they

Although Willow and Cordelia speak on the telephone in "Disharmony",
the conversation has no effect on the chronology. "The Real Me" has
already set up Harmony's flight from Sunnydale. More important,
perhaps, is the conversation between Willow and Angel, when she warns
him of Harmony's presence, for it is then that she might have told him
about Joyce's death. However, Angel's trip to Sunnydale in "Forever"
can stand alone without the supposititious notice from Willow.

"Carpe Noctem" occurs before "Flooded," because Angel first hears
about Buffy's resurrection from Willow at the end of CN. Buffy then
receives a return telephone call from Angel at the end of "Flooded."
They meet somewhere between L.A. and Sunnydale after those episodes.

Incidental to that is the fact that Angel must have been back in L.A.
nearly two months before Buffy was resurrected: Cordelia tells James
in "Heartthrob" that it has been about three months since Buffy's
death. Two months must have passed, therefore, between "Heartthrob"
and "Carpe Noctem," because Spike tells Buffy in "Afterlife" that she
had been gone for 147 days, almost five months.

Clarification of Answer by hlabadie-ga on 04 Jul 2003 09:18 PDT
This is a correction. I would have posted it earlier, but my computer
has been down and up and down for several weeks, permitting only
intermittent connections.

Harmony leaves Sunnydale immediately after "Crush", not "The Real
Me.". It helps to have seen the episodes of Angel that aired prior to
the broadcast date of "Crush", but it is not essential. Spike and
Drusilla give a synopsis within the episode itself to bring the
viewers up to speed on the developments in L.A. on Angel.

I assume this is correct - it will take me 3 buffy (one not out yet)
and 4 angel seasons to verify that you are correct - that is some
6000 minutes []_[]
Thanks

The Gift had to conclude before There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb, as
there had to be time for Willow to reach L.A. before AI returned to
the Hyperion from Pylea.

There is an obvious problem with Flooded and Carpe Noctem: in Flooded,
Buffy receives a call from Angel, who has been informed that Buffy is
alive, while in CN, Angel receives a call from Willow, informing him
that Buffy is alive, but there is never a time in Flooded when Willow
could have made the call. One is compelled to assume that she called
before the quarrel with Giles and forgot to mention it afterwards, but
that is only speculation.

Thanks. Enjoy the shows. BtVS and the first two seasons of Angel are
well worth the expense.

I would have a difficult time justifying to myself the purchase of the
third and fourth seasons of Angel on DVD when they are issued,
however.

And don't forget the crossovers between BtVS and Angel with Firefly!
Nathan Fillion was Caleb on BtVS and Gina Torres was Jasmine on Angel.

Seems missing that Crush must come after quite a few Angels is
important.
I am going to look at Angel (Episode "Darla") now and see when
Drusilla leaves for Sunnydale - must be around Redefinition or
Bloodmoney.

In Crush, Dru is talking to Spike and Spike is summing up as you said.
I watched Crush too early now :( Far to far behind ... Need to see how
Spike knows too...

I have very few problems with the shows Buffy and Angel. I have
watched each season at least 13 times each of each show.. I absolutely
despise the whole Cordelia thing in Season 4. She should have never
become a higher being and never become evil possessed pregnant lady.
They should have either killed her off or put her in a coma or
something until Charisma's baby was born. Angel being in love with
Cordelia was a VERY stupid idea.

And what pissed me off in Buffy is the way that she is towards men.
Scott, Parker and even Riley. None of them compare to Angel and they
COULD have made the relationship work. It doesn't mean they couldn't
have sex, the curse does not specifically say sex. So what in the hell
is the deal with Angel running around so scared to have sex?

Sheesh, and what was the deal in the episode where Angel became human
and had Buffy and everything he had ever wanted in his life was
finally coming true.. They made Angel this helpless little weak boy in
that episode just because he wasn't a vampire. He's been alive for
over 240 years. And it's actually over 340 if you include the 100
years he was trapped in a hell dimension.. Take away his vampirism and
he still makes a very strong human being that is well-trained in many
different fields of martial arts. He has 340+ years of fighting
experience under his belt but for some reason he becomes a little
helpless kitten when you take away his vampire-side.

This does not make sense, there are plenty of humans in both Buffy and
Angel that kick major demon ass throughout the seasons. Wesley, Gunn,
Riley, Principal Wood, and hell, even Giles in the later seasons.

The only reason Angel chose to fold time and choose to NOT become
human and live out the rest of his life with Buffy was because he
couldn't fight or be of any help to her. This is stupid because all
logic points to Angel still being able to handle himself as a human,
the writers were WRONG here and there should have been some other
reason for him choosing to turn back time.

And btw, Oz is the best character in BOTH shows. Seth Green's movie
career was taking off hardcore and he didn't have time to do the show
full-time, but he offered to come on as a recurring part-time
character as he started out. But the Powers That Be said no and he was
off of Buffy, forever.. He WAS going to be on Season 6 of Angel
though, Joss Whedon was determined to get Oz to help Angel's werewolf
girlfriend and he was possibly going to become a regular on the show.
But the stupid WB had to cancel Angel.

Ever since they made their announcement to cancel Angel I have not
watched The WB. I will stay true to my boycott until they bring Angel
back in SOME way.
