I am curious to know if there have been any controlled scientific experiments to prove or disprove astrological claims? If you find examples of such experiments can you let me know what the outcome was? Kind regards Mongolia |

Greetings Mongolia: There is a lot of scientific research out there on various aspects of astrological influces yet you will need to examine various links to determine your own summation of research presented. I didn't include some of the sites I found because they seemed much less credible than others. I am offering below the links I believe contain the most merit for your studies. Astrological Research and the concept of similarity by Dr. Peter Niehenke: Lecture held at the 10TH INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE ON ASTROLOGY by: The Astrological Association & URANIA TRUST, London (9th and 10th November 1996): "Most of the numerous master theses and dissertation papers dealing with an empirical investigation of astrological claims, again and again lead to the same result: no support for the astrological hypothesis." From http://www.mandala.be/declination/niehenke.htm An interesting paper I found titled "Nonuniform distribution of the ecliptical longitudes of sun and moon at the birthdays of top scientists" is noted to have been in "Psychological Reports (VOL.85, 35-40, 1999)." The link is at http://www.ping.be/jvwit/testingastrology.html and the Introduction reads in part "Logically, the horoscope cannot describe or fix all aspects of life history. This follows from the fact that every human has a lot of astrological twins, with whom he/she shares the same horoscope, but clearly not the same fate. The best we can expect is a partial correlation between certain aspect of life histories and certain elements of the horoscope. In order to render hypothetical astrological correlations as prominent as possible, it is important to consider extravagant populations that show strong overall homogeneity." You will find comprehensive lists of astrological research sites at http://www.nickcampion.com/nc/science/science.htm and http://www.astrostar.com/astrologyresearch.htm Noted psychiatrist Carl Jung's observations and comments concerning your query at http://koti.mbnet.fi/neptunia/jungast3.htm note "A Frenchman, Paul Flambart, made an attempt to verify certain irrational statements. He has done some scientific research work in connection with the so-called aerial trigone: If the whole zodiac is designed in sections of a circle, then the three points, the months represented by Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, form the aerial trigon. These are air-signs, and air means mind or spirit. The old saying was that one born under these signs was apt to be spiritual or intellectual; that quality was given him at birth. So Flambart took one hundred nativities of men remarkable for their intelligence, and he found that, though the birth-dates were everywhere on the circle, there was an extraordinary accumulation on each point of the trigon, so one could say that the majority of such nativities were associated with the corners of the aerial trigon, with intelligence." To mongolia-ga, Astrology has been around for a long time. Its mentioned in the Bible at Daniel 2;27, 4;7, 5;7, and 5;11, If you consider the bible as the word of God, astrology is not regarded in a good light. at Daniel 2;27, they were included with conjurers and magic practising priests and were unable to explain the dream that King Nebuchadnezzar had about the image with a head of gold and feet of mixed iron and clay. Daniel explained it to the King but the astrologers could not. They certainly did not have God`s approval, whereas Daniel did, as only God had the power to rescue him from the lions den. Again, in Matthew 2, verses 1, 7 and 16, the people mentioned in the bible , who we think of as wise men, were in fact astrologers, who studied the heavens for signs. Verse 16 says that Herod was outwitted by the astrologers, flew into a rage and ordered that all baby boys from two years and under were to be killed. The reason for the two year time frame was that the astrologers had been journeying for two years to get to Bethlehem. Satan the devil was behind the scheme because he wanted Jesus killed by the authorities. This was why Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt to save Jesus` life. This is recorded at Matthew 2;13 [Jehovah`s angel appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, "Get up, take the young child and it`s mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I give you word, for Herod is about to search for the young child to destroy it. Verses 14, 15 describe how joseph stayed in Egypt until Herod died, and this fulfilled a prophecy by the prophet Hosea, and recorded at Hosea 11;1. So if you seek God`s favour, consider his attitude to astrologers as shown in Deuteronomy 18; 9 to 13. " There should not be found in you anyone who passes his children through fire[ worshippers of Baal] anyone who employs divination, practices magic [ common these days] looks for omens, or a sorcerere, or binds with a spell [ hypnotists] or who consults spirit mediums [ again common in magazines] or anyone who inquires of the dead . For anyone doing these things is detestable to Jehovah [God`s name Psalm 83;18 Exodus 6;3]. One final point. God is not against knowing astronomy, the study of the heavens, for scientific purposes. Isaiah 40;22 describes the circle of the earth and Job 26;7 says He is stretching out the north over the empty place, hanging the earth upon nothing, What a perfect description of the earth from space. How did Job know what the earth looked like from space. It is only possible if he was inspired of God. 2 Timothy 3;16. Q.E.D. |
