I will most likely ask at least one more question within the next day
or so.  Feel free to use any standard facts without proof (e.g., no
need to prove the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for this one).  This first
problem involves two images and I therefore put the problem on a

If the image is too small to make out, just save it and view it with
another application such as Quicktime.
