Hi candyfloss,
thanks for an interesting question.
Your best bet for getting memory cheap is to register as a reseller.
This will allow you to avoid the ~3% markup usually added between
resellers and end-users.
PC Wholesale offers reseller account to buy direct from the
distributor:
URL: http://www.pcwholesale.com/newaccount.cfm
Another distributor that offers reseller opportunities on name-brand
memory:
URL: http://www.ingrammicro.com/imdocs/display/main/1,,897,00.html
Alternatively, look at the Kingston Technologies list of distributors.
If you'd prefer to buy from somewhere other than the U.S., the
navigation frame on the left allows you to locate distributors in
other countries:
URL: http://www.kingston.com/wheretobuy/usa.asp#distribution
If you would like to avoid registering as a reseller, I recommend the
following low-cost search engines:
URL: http://www.pricewatch.com/
or
URL: http://pricescan.com/010118.asp
My personal favorite and a company whose stability I vouch for is
Tiger Direct:

I hope you find this information useful, and feel free to request
clarification. If you do require clarification, please allow me to
provide it before you rate this answer.
