Question ID: 212258
our company brokers machinery. i would like an automated way to enter
a key word and have software perform a search on about a hundred web
sites contined in a database and return any information surrounding
the key word. for example if i wanted to find any machiens advertised
on a web site made by Maytag then i would enter "Maytag" and possibly
the model that i am looking for. the software should take my key word
and search the sites. the sites typically list the machinery in some
sort of table format. the software should return not only the sites
that contain the key word but also the description of the machine in
that record of the table.
what is the best way to do this? is there any ready made software that
does it? could i customize it or do i have to have someone build this
from scratch?

I have found some software that may be able to do the searching on
many websites, though many of them are not for free, and I have yet to
see if they do the results listing in a table form like you want. Are
you looking for only freeware, or are you willing to purchase such
software?

I am open to purchasing such software.
if a software already does majority of the things then is there a way
to customize that for my needs. if so, how do i get started?

What I found is a list of several search bot software, and I could
list the websites of the software that I find closest to your needs.
There is one program that costs $20 that may be what you need. You
could make your choice from the list I will make. Is that all right as
an official answer for you? Do let me know, thanks.

but before you do that, please give me these details.
test the software you think is close to my needs.
Give it a sample key word (that you know for sure is carried in the
sample sites)and sample sites to search for and see the results.
you will know if the searchware makes sense in a couple of tests.
The reason is i don't want to get something that doesn't help me and
pay for it.

On the other hand if you are very confident of the list and the
software you are about to reccommend that it will meet my search
requirements, i'll accept it as an official answer.

Hello again,
I've not been able to test software properly since all search bot
programs I can download for free don't have complete features. Would
you be satisfied with a list of the programs I have found that *may*
satisfy your requirements? There are a lot of search bot software out
there, though a free one with all the features you want is certainly
non-existent.

By the way, have you found any search bot software by yourself? I
wonder if you found anything that might duplicate my findings. Thanks.

Hello Jacksoncoker,
I decided to post this as an answer since I left it hanging for some
time, and I feel confident with what I have found. I found several
programs that allow you to search multiple engines at ones and
customize the results to show what you need. I suppose when it comes
to searching Maytag appliances, for example, these programs can be
customized to show the appliance information in the search results.
The first programs I list will probably be the most powerful and most
appropriate search tools for your needs. They are listed below:

Copernic Agent homepage - This might be the best to use
http://www.copernic.com/en/products/agent/index.html
- Basic version: free
- Personal version: $30
- Professional version: $80

007 Goldeneye – by 6bytes software - $20
http://www.6bytes.com/007goldeneye.html
- This is the most affordable that offers the most features.

Easyseeker - $20 for full features
http://www.bluesquirrel.com/products/easyseeker/easyseeker.html

Strategic Finder - full release costs $450 (yikes!)
http://www.strategicfinder.com/descript.htm

Web Info Finder - $30
http://www.infogist.com/WebInfo.htm

Webferret
http://www.ferretsoft.com/learn.htm
- Pro version costs $30.

NetReaper by Chimera Software
http://www.chimerasoft.com/chimerasoft/netreaper/
- Standard version $39
- Professional $99

Searchwolf by Trellian Software - $25
http://www.trellian.com/search/index.html

Webwolf by Trellian Software - $25
http://www.trellian.com/webwolf/index.html
- This acts as a Search Engine on its own, without depending on other
search engines.

Webseeker - $30 for a new copy
