Question ID: 212282
I have an urgent data need for sales (not production) volumes for
North American vehicles priced between $30,000-$70,000

I need this in the following format:
By year for 1996 to present
Broken out by cars vs. trucks
  With the approximate vehicle price

It would be very helpful to have as soon as possible.

I look forward to your help!

clearly split by cars and trucks
Need annual sales data (not production data) for the past 6 years

Thank you for submitting your question to our forum.

I can get you some really good data, but not exactly according to your
specifications -

+ luxury car and truck sales, 1997-2000 (this is likely the $30k to
$70k range you require)
+ car sales by make, 1996-2001
+ car sales by model, 1996-2001
+ average selling price for a new car, 1993-1999

I could not locate data on average selling price for luxury cars.

Please let me know if you are interested in this data; if so, I'll
compile and publish it here tomorrow (Tuesday).

thanks much,
ragingacademic

It's important for me to be able to associate a price point (even
approximate within 3-5K) with the volume. If you can do that then
please do post. We need it in an easy format to work with. Can you
post an excel file to the site?

To further clarify, I already have historical vehicle sales for most
models. What I don't have is the association of the price with
volumes. All I care about is the luxury segment, but the price for
each vehicle is important.

After a lot of additional work, the only thing I can come up with is
the average price for a used luxury vehicle in 2003 vs. 2002.

btw, luxury vehicle is now defined by the government as one costing
$38k or more, up from the previous benchmark of $36k.

If you'd like some of the data I've collected, you could reduce the
price of the question...?

thanks

Ragingacademic,

What you've described is not what I'm needing.

It is important for me to have the models, average/typical sales price
(new), and annual volumes. For example:

Luxury car 1; $X MSRP; Units sold Yr 1, 2, 3, . . .
Luxury car 2 . . .
Luxury truck 1 . . .
Luxury truck 2 . . .

I've heard that on yahoo auto or similar web sites, it is possible to
type in vehicles and get the MSRP or some approximate sales price. It
sounds as if using that to add price to the data you've already found
would get the detail decribed above.

I'm going to increase the price to $200. If you, or anyone else, can
get this by tonight, it will be worth the cost.

Thanks!

Hello again; thanks for increasing the price.
I am putting some more time into this and hope to be able to come up
with something.

However, the methodology you suggest will not yield what you are
seeking unless I am misunderstanding something - from Yahoo Cars, or
other such sites, I will only be able to extract current prices for
new cars, and then for used cars by year (or we could also get that
from bluebook).

I thought what you wanted was to know what, say, a 2002 Lexus 430 cost
in 2002...?

I apologize for asking so many questions, but I want to ensure that
the response you receive is relevant (whether it ends up coming from
me or not!)

thanks,
ragingacademic

Glad to clarify. No used prices, please. One MSRP or estimate (new
car) price per vehicle is fine and can be from any year (i.e., Luxury
car A, $45,000 2003 MSRP Volumes: 2000 = 50K, 2001 = 65K, 2002 = 55K,
2003 = 40K)

It is OK to take a price from pretty much any year, as long as it is
the new price not used. Given a choice, a more recent price is
preferred.

Also, please clearly describe the data source for all info

What's the status on this? It's been locked for quite a while and I
need to either get info quickly or go to plan B. ??

I continue to work on this, collating all the data is quite
challenging. Sorry it is taking so long.

What's your deadline?

thanks,
ragingacademic

P.S. It seems you posted the clarification request an hour ago, but it
only got through to me a few minutes ago...

If you're comfortable that you'll be able to provide the data then
tonight (U.S. time) would work - the earlier the better. If not, then
I need to look into other alternatives. It might make sense to post
the data for a car or two just to make sure we're on the same
wavelength. Also, is there a way to post excel files to the site?
That would be the most convenient way for us to get the data

Ok, the latest numbers I can extract by model are for 1999, and my
feeling is you are not going to be happy with that.

I'm therefore releasing this question to see if anyone else may be
more successful.

Good luck!

Erik

P.S. I'm sorry it took so long but I was waiting for the quantities to
be sent to me.

Erik, thanks for your help. I'm going to post a revised question.
Please feel free to respond if it fits with your research. Best, -
John
