Dear Trumani:

What do you mean when you say do not include abandonware? Most old
games that have ever been sold are now considered abandonware.

Best Regards,

Hi! This is a very interesting project.

The question is challenging since there is no definitive list of all
published games like the movies in IMDB but if you get pieces of
information on the web you will be able to find an extensive database
of game titles.

According to “The Giant List of Classic Game Programmers” provides a
list of pc games by great programmers at different times. The list is
long and covers al lot of published PC video games and for other
formats. All PC games have the code PC or PCJr for the IBM PC Jr.

Gaming Bliss meanwhile has a database of PC Game tiles from 1995 to
2001.

The following link from Moby Games gives a list of

Dos Games from 1982 to 2000.

Windows 3.1 Games from 1992 to 1999.

Windows Games from 1994 to 2002

Old Software.com also has a list of old PC games published.

The next articles about the history of video games maybe of interest
to you.

this does NOT answer my question. I asked for a list, and THEN asked
for where you got these references from. those websites are not
exhaustive lists that cover my groundrules set. Please do some more
reasearch.

Thanks for asking a clarification. I will try to find further sources
regarding the list.

I have tried finding more sites regarding such lists but could come up
with nothing appropriate. I am sorry.

Hello,

My guess is that you're looking for an www.imdb.com for PC Games.
Unfortunately this data wasn't very well kept, and there were hundreds
of small business game companies that only released a couple thousand
copies of a particular game, and then were never seen or heard from
again. That was the nature of the beast in 80's & 90's PC gaming.
However, there is a new database which is slowly getting filled up by
user input which contains information on the last 20 years of PC
gaming. It's nowhere near complete, but it is probably the most
detailed database of old and current games to date. You can find this
database at Moby Games.

This isn't the answer you were looking for, but if you're happy with
it, say so and I'll collect the bounty on this question. If not,

What is the purpose of this list?

It's possible this information could be purchased from marketing firms
that track PC game sales. A company called PC Data used to track this
information, but their Web site currently redirects you to a different
source: http://www.pcdata.com

For information about specific software titles, you could search the
the trademarks at the US Patent & Trademark Office. They have an
advanced search query that may be able to sort by your subject
(computer game software), however this is used by Patent and Trademark
attorneys and will require some learning of structure.

Perhaps a bit of a tangent, but... should any of you ever decide that
you want to PLAY the games of yesteryear, I've found that the mostt
complete list of old titles available for download is maintained over
at www.theunderdogs.com.
