Outlook 2000 under WinXP has stopped sending mail. I either get the
message "THe SMTP server name you specified cannot be found." or
"TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by your mail server.
My ISP (Widopenwest) says it's not their problem. Microsoft's web
page doesn't seem to have any help. I've repaired Outlook and
restored Windows to a point where things worked, as well as disabled
the Norton email screening. Any suggestions?

Hi herb...

Have you tried another email client
program to see if it is actually a
problem with your software (Outlook)
or if it's an ISP related problem?
Any email program that's on the net
for download that has a free trial
should do the trick.

1. Are you able to get to web pages? If not, or you have to reconnect
or dial again, the problem is that Outlook isn't actually connected.
2. Make sure your outgoing server is typed in exactly as your ISP
indicates.
3. Has it ever worked? Did it just stop working recently?
4. Are you able to receive mail?
5. Are you connecing through the same ISP as your email account is?
6. Do you have a firewall active? Do you have a third party
firewall? If so inactivate it completely and see if that helps. If
not, make sure WXP's firewall is not turned on. In Control Panel,
Network Connections, right click your connection and go to Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the option to use XP's firewall
is not checked.
