Question ID: 212578
Is it possible to obtain a full player roster for the 1970 Pacific
Coast League champion Spokane Indians?

I have found a book that contains information on every player for the
Spokane Indians who batted 30 times or more, or pitched 20 innings or
more, in 1970. (The book also contains this information for 15 other
all-time great minor league teams.) The book costs $22.

Would this be a sufficient answer?

Thumper --

I have tickets to see the 2003 Spokane Indians (which just changed
affiliation to the Texas Rangers from the KC Royals) later this summer
when they play the Everett Aquasox (Mariners).

This came from the director of public relations for the Spokane
Indians via e-mail:
>The only copy of the 1970 Roster is in the form of a team picture,
>which we have framed and hanging on our wall in the office in
>commemoration of Baseball America voting the 1970 Indians as the
"Greatest
>Minor League Team of the Last Half of the 20th Century". The roster
was
>as follows.:
>
>Jerry Stephenson, Doyle Alexander, Mike Strahler, Tom Paciorek,
George
>Lott, Dick Armstrong, Charlie Hough, Bill Buckner, Geoff Zahn, Sandy
>Vance, John Purdin, Marv Galliher, Jack Jenkins, Bobby Valentine, Bob
>Stinson, Davie Lopes, Steve Sogge, Coaches Dick McLaughlin and Bart
>Shirley, and Manager Tommy Lasorda.
>
>Indians Regards,
>
>Jared Rose
>Director of Public Relations

That's some lineup!!

Of course the 2003 Baseball Amateur draft was yesterday and today --
Tommy Lasorda was making the picks for the L.A. Dodgers now that he's
not managing the team.

Baseball America concentrates on covering high school, college and
minor league baseball and ran the commentary for MLB Radio on the
draft during the last several years. It's a site with paid access but
a large amount of content available for free:
Baseball America Home Page

Google search strategy:
My initial trials were on the Baseball American and TeamOne sites, as
they both specialize in covering baseball prospects. I used Google's
"site search" capability to see what was available. Having failed, I
sent an e-mail to the Spokane Indians directly.

Go Indians!
