Hi, I'm performing an "undertaking" of my choice on Technology and Human values, and I have chosen the whole "Big Brother" surveillence issue. I am looking for general as well as specific information on and about the "issue" of surveillence, surrounding human rights, government involvement, society etc. For example, any organizations that are currently involved, or any activist groups either for or against it, major producers of surveillence equipment and any promising new technology on the horizon. Also, somewhere I can find out about United States Citizens rights regarding surveillence and cameras. Basically, any information you yourself are willing to provide for the price, along with links to Surveillence Company sites, any Pro or Anti Big Brother organization websites, Human Rights Websites with information about this, Conspiracy Theories, And anything else you may be able to find. I am in need of an answer by Thursday 12 noon. Thanks So much and please feel free to clarify for me, this afternoon. Thanks. | |

Hi blaskotnu: OK - let's get started. I've compiled the following information that should allow you to quickly get the lay of the land and indentify exactly what you want to write about in your report. I suggest that you scan through the specific pages I've identified first (plus any links from those pages you find compelling). Once you've identified your precise project topic, if you need me to research further details, I'd be more than happy to help. Just send me a Clarification Request. Organizations with Information ****************************** ****************************** There are many organizations out there who deal with the issues surrounding privacy and surveillance. I've tried to focus on the ones with a "technology slant" and to identify key pages on those sites for you to start at. Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) ***************************************** Homepage: http://www.cdt.org/ Government Surveillance URL: http://www.cdt.org/wiretap/ USA Patriot Act(s) Ramifications URL: http://www.cdt.org/security/010911response.shtml Note: This excellent set of pages list not just the act, but a point by point account of what impact it has on personal privacy in the U.S. The Nature and Scope of Governmental Electronic Surveillance Activity URL: http://www.cdt.org/wiretap/wiretap_overview.html Notes: An excellent overview of laws revolving around wiretapping. Wiretaps and Cybersecurity Legislation URL: http://www.cdt.org/legislation/108th/wiretaps/ Notes: Currently debated and upcoming legislation. Digital Storm URL: http://www.cdt.org/wiretap/govaccess/LawEnforcement.html Note: Nice Flash demo on what's going on. Privacy International ********************* Homepage: http://www.privacyinternational.org/index.html The 2002 US Big Brother Awards URL: http://www.privacyinternational.org/bigbrother/us2002/ Note: Lists links to some pretty scary "award" winners, as well as some champions of privacy. Privacy Foundation ****************** Homepage: http://www.privacyfoundation.org/ Workplace Surveillance Report URL: http://www.privacyfoundation.org/workplace/index.asp Note: Excellent overview of what's going on in this crucial area. Privacy Rights Clearinghouse **************************** Homepage: http://www.privacyrights.org/ Fact Sheet 2: Wireless Communications Privacy URL: http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs2-wire.htm Note: Is your cell phone being tapped? Excellent work, found exactly what I needed, and was extremely helpful and kind. Great Researcher, deserves a promotion or gold star sticker ;-) one or the other. Who would of thought? Personal researchers for hire, and their damn good. Takes all the trouble of you struggling through broken links and not finding what you need. Will definately do business with Google Answers team in the future, thanks again. |
