Hello Amazing69,

From what I can tell, the books you are looking for have not been made
into audio tapes or CDs. The Julie Garwood titles that are available
in audio format are:

Killjoy
The Wedding
Prince Charming
Heartbreaker
For the Roses
Mercy
Come the Spring
One Pink Rose, One White Rose and One Red Rose
Ransom
Saving Grace

If any of these are of interest, please let me know.

I know of these books on tape. In fact I have most of them but I know
that THE BRIDE was in fact on tape in 1995 because I had it but loaned
it out & never got it back. I am now trying to re-locate a copy of it
because my husband is visually impaired & I have read all of her books
except KILLJOY to him. THE BRIDE is the best one yet. It is the
prequel to THE WEDDING which I have abridged & unabridged on tape.
PLEASE HELP ME FIND A COPY OF THE BRIDE FOR HIM. I am also lokking for
the other books on audiocassette because it is easier for him. I do
not know if they ere ever on tape but I am still hoping to find them:
GENTLE WARRIOR GUARDIAN ANGEL HONOR'S SPLENDOUR REBELLIOUS
DESIRES THE LION'S LADY THE PRIZE THE SECRET THE GIFT CASTLES
I have called Simon & Schuster-the original publisher of the audiotape
THE BRIDE. They advised me that they re-issue the books but not the
tapes. I have called Barnes & Noble. There has to be a copy
somewhere. A friend contacted Julie Garwood by E-mail but her reply
was to contact the publisher. We have even tried the local National
Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handicapped. They have THE
WEDDING but not THE BRIDE.

Hello again,

I have found out some additional information which looks promising.
The Library of Congress in Washington DC (my home town,
coincidentally) offers a loan service for the visually impaired, and
makes a great many books on tape available through participating
libraries around the U.S. (I'm assuming you live in the US -- if not,
this option probably won't work).

The service is operated through the National Library Service for the
Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) at the Library of Congress.

You can search the NLS collection at:

http://www.loc.gov/nls/

I searched for everything by Julie Garwood, and came up with the
following audio tapes:

Author: Garwood, Julie.
Title: The bride [sound recording] / Julie Garwood.
Published: [Washington, D.C.] : National Library Service for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of
Congress,
2002. (Talking Book Publishers, recording agency.
AFB,
                  distributor.)
Book Number: RC 52154

Author: Garwood, Julie.
Title: The gift [sound recording] / Julie Garwood.
Published: [Washington, D.C.] : NLS, 1991. (Talking Book
                  Publishers, recording agency. EVA, distributor.)
Book Number: RC 32020

[NOTE: 2 listings for "The Gift" with different book numbers]

Author: Garwood, Julie.
Title: The gift [sound recording] / Julie Garwood.
Published: [Washington, D.C.] : NLS, 1991. (Talking Book
                  Publishers, recording agency. EVA, distributor)
Book Number: FD 32020

Author: Garwood, Julie.
Title: Guardian angel [sound recording] / Julie
                  Garwood.
Published: [Washington, D.C.] : NLS, 1990. (APH, recording
                  agency. APH, distributor.)
Book Number: RC 31402

Author: Garwood, Julie.
Title: The prize [sound recording] / Julie Garwood.
Published: [Washington, D.C.] : NLS, 1992. (APH, recording
                  agency. APH, distributor)
Book Number: FD 33914

If you'd care to tell me where you live (city and state), I can
identify the nearest library that participates in the NLS lending
program, and instruct you in how to participate.

Understand, however, that the tapes would be library loans rather than
something you could acquire permanently.

If this would be a satisfactory answer to your question, let me know,
and I will post the details (you can also change the price of your
question if you feel that's appropriate, since this isn't a full
answer to your question).

By the way, I also found a listing for an audiotape of "The Secret" in
another database known as the OCLC. This does not appear to be part
of the NLS collection, but it may be possible to track down a copy for
sale or loan through other means. I can look into this a bit further
as well, if you'd like.

I just realized that you're earlier comment says you've tried the NLS
service already. Please let me know some of the details of your
efforts here. If they relied on their local holdings, but didn't
contact the Library of Congress for loaner tapes, then there may still
be the possibility of getting these through NLS.

Thank you for all your investigation so far. This website is where I
thought I would end up but I would still like to get them on
audiocassette so that we could play them in our vehicle when we take
trips. The National Library Service for the Blind & Physically
Handicapped supplied us with a special tape player to listen to their
tapes but we cannot use it in our vehicle. THE WEDDING was found on
Amazon.com as unabridged. Enoch Pratt Free LIbrary (Baltimore, MD)
found THE BRIDE in a library in Kentucky but that library would not
loan it out across states.

Clarification of Question by amazing69-ga on 10 Jun 2003 18:38 PDT
Hi again! I'm still searching for THE BRIDE book on tape. Since our
last conversation I have checked eBay.com, Half.com, Amazon.com,
Book-on-tape.com. I am willing to pay $200 to find a copy--that is
how importaint it is to me. Please don't give up yet. It has been
said that "you can find anything on the web". So I'm going to keep
trying. Quitters never win & Winners never quit! Please don't quit
on me. I'm new to the internet & sometimes I feel like I'm lost in a
paperbag that is why I asked for your help. You probably have more
experience on the web than I do. Thanks for all your help so far. I
believe that THE BRIDE book on tape is out there somewhere but you & I
have just not found it yet. Please keep trying. Thank you.

Keep your fingers crossed...

P.S. Readings for the Blind is already closed for the day, and
doesn't have business hours on Fridays, so it may be a few more days
before we know for sure. Sit tight...

Thank you feels so insufficient for all your investigation on my
behalf but I can only say "THANK YOU'. I am trying to find THE BRIDE
on audiocassette (book-on-tape) so that we can play it in our vehicle
while driving or play it at home on our tape player. Since my husband
is visually impaired & he does belong to the visually impaired library
in Baltimore, Md through the Enoch Free Library, he could get it from
the Library of Congress on loan, but I'd rather get it on
audiocassette for our own use. Believe me after all the trouble of
trying to find it, I am NOT going to loan it out again. Thank you
again for all your hard work.

Since your clarification of question on the 6th, I've been asking
various contacts and posting the question on relevant forums. After
some dead ends, I've managed to phone and speak with a person who has
a copy of the recording himself. The owner himself isn't interested
in selling his copy, but he told me it is very likely that he can get
ahold of another copy from where he got his. He has told me last week
that he would call me on monday.

If he does indeed obtain another copy, he can start a private auction
on eBay for you to bid on. I have checked his feedback rating and it
shows him as a very reliable person to buy from. You can check the
feedbacks personally, once I speak to him and confirm that he has a
copy to sell.

Best regards,

Hello again amazing69-ga,

At last...an answer!

Yes. "The Bride" is available on tape from Readings for the Blind.

The book is available on a 7-cassette collection at a cost of $14
(Readings for the Blind charges $2 per tape cassette). Ms. Murphy, at
RFTB, says it will take about 2 weeks for the tapes to arrive.

You can call them for full ordering information:

Readings for the Blind
CONTACT: Murphy, Doreen PHONE: (248) 557-7776

or you can email them at:

rftb@sbcglobal.net

You should also visit their website for more information on the
organization itself:

http://comnet.org/local/orgs/rftb/

As for the other books you are looking for, RFTB will record books on
tape upon request for anyone who is sight impaired, as long as they
can obtain the appropriate permission from the publishers (which they
seem to have a good track record of doing).

You can request other Julie Garwood books from them. There is no
charge for the recordings, other than the $2 per cassette fee.

I hope this is the information you needed, and I hope, too, that you
and your husband can continue to get many years of pleasure from the
books you love.

If you need any additional information about anything I've mentioned
here, just let me know by posting a Request for Clarification, and
I'll be happy to assist you further.

This was a challenging quest. Thank you for the faith you had in our
ability to find what you were looking for.

Hi paf,
I took your advice & spoke with Doreen. She is sending me out some
info & paperwork needed to register with Readings for the Blind.
Their toll free number is: 888-766-1166. You can add this little
tidbit to all the other info you gathered. You may borrow tapes up to
a year or the client may buy as you mentioned or the client may send
blank tapes to be used in the taped reading process. When I called
her & identified myself as the client asking the search from Google,
her response was "So you're the one I got all the calls about" HA!
HA!
Thank you, thank you, thank you
You spend your time searching & finding
   & answering obscure questions
You have given us many hours of happy listening

Thank you, thank you, thank you
Two small words but within so much contained
You have changed our lives forever
by opening doors & searching, & never giving up.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
