Hello.

Joan Fontaine, now age 85, is still alive. Ms Fontaine is reportedly
enjoying retirement in Carmel, Monterey County, California.

Ms Fontaine is reportedly still active. She wrote a letter last year
to the Monterey City Council in support of a proposed movie theater
project in her area. Ms Fontaine's letter was reported in the 2002
minutes of the Monterey City Council, cached by Google:

I hope this helps.
