Question ID: 213873
When I start Internet Explorer 6, a program entitled YSEC.EXE starts
up and occupies up to 99% of my CPU for several seconds before ie6
completes its startup. This appears to be new behavior as ie6 used to
start up much more quickly. Once started, YSEC.EXE periodically
occupies the most of the CPU until I use the Windows Task manager to
shut it down. Is this valid program or a virus? What is it? What is
it doing to my computer?

Hi,

I can't find any information about this file, and if you notice no
change in functionality when you close it, then you should really get
rid of it.
I can give you my answer as a way to remove it completely, but would
need to know version of Windows you are you running.

Thanks.

It appears to be an spyware or a pest like that.
There are different products that helps you ridding of spyware and
other pests.

First of all try with your installed antivirus, update it and do a
complete scan.

The second step is to go to start --> run --> and type msconfig then
press enter, this is the Configuration System Utility of windows, go
to Start tab and see if an strange program is in the list, may be this
file appears listed here, deselect it in order to prevent its restart
with the windows start up.

Then try with the ctrl+alt+del feature (Task Manager) to end this
ysec.exe if its running. Now you can delete it
manually.

Even if the previous advice works fine or not I suggest you to install
one of the following free programs:

-SpyBot Search and Destroy-:
Download:
http://files.vollversion.de/spybotsd12.exe

Info:
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=bots

-Adaware:
Download:
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6.exe

Info:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

After installed one of this programs (I use SpyBot) run an scan, and
then let it clean all the spyware that are in your PC.
Remember that some P2P programs didnĀ“t work without the spyware that
they install in your PC and the antispyware programs like the
antivirus must be kept updated.

If this helps you let me know and I will post it as the answer.

Regards.

Something that might be helpful in answering your question would be
for you to search for it using the Windows search program (available
from the Start menu in most versions of Windows, I believe). Then let
us know which directory (folder) it's in. That might give a clue as to
where the program came from (unless it's just thrown in the Windows or
root directory, in which case its location will tell us nothing).
