Question ID: 213876
When I request certain Urls I get http:/// and nothing more.
If I delete 3rd /, I have to exit IE immediately via Task Manager.
The problem lies in the following Internet/Tools/Link response - how
do I correct:
Your search - related:res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http:///
- did not match any documents.

Try downloading shdoclc.dll from:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shdoclc

Then replace the shdoclc.dll file on your PC with this new one.
If it works, please let me know and I will post it as an answer; if
not tell us what happened to continue helping you.
REgards.

There appears to be a lot more to it than the file change suggested.

A number of registry changes and a partial reinstall required. Tested
OK on W2000. Won't know until Monday at latest the Win XP Pro test
result.

I will confirm back immediately I have full details i.e. Mon or Tues
next.

There are some software that will help you with cleaning the Registry:
RegCleaner:
http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml

RegScrubXP:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Some tips on this topic:
"Backing Up and Restoring the Windows XP Registry":
http://www.theeldergeek.com/windows_xp_registry.htm

"Registry Edits for Windows XP":

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately your solution did not resolve problem. (O/S Win XP Pro)
I can access Microsoft internet Explorer via Outlook Express 2002.
Texplain precisely:
Using a T.P like Webferret, I get HTTP:/// AND NOTHING ELSE.
Try and alter HTTP:/// in any way produces
"res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http:///" The
Properties of this produce:
General
Cannot find server
Unknown Protocol
Type not availiable
Connection:Not encrypted
Address:[URL]: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http:///
Size: Not available
Created: not available
Modified not available
Certicisates:none
I have a JPG of above.
I have done all sorts of registry searches without identifying
anything.
In Internet URL, Tools,Internet Options, Advanced I even tried Restore
defaults and unchecked 'show friendly URLs'.
I am at a total loss at this point.

The answer is:

Check the "IP Address box autmatically". This worked in what was
apparently a DNS problem.

Thanks for trying. It lead to other routes endinf as above.
