How do I enable disallow lists for an extension on a Merlin Legend
telephone system? The extension is in the disallow list but can still
make calls using the numbers in the disallow list. |

Hello Rubendn,
Just to clarify the situation.
You have an extension (say 1234) that you wish to disable calls to
from other extensions in the building.
You have entered that extension in a disallow list. For example,
Tables -> Disallow -> 0 0 (Enter) -> 1234 (Enter)
and added the disallow list to one or more extensions (e.g., x3456)
Tables -> DisallowTo -> 0 (Enter) -> 3456 (Enter)
and you can still call 1234 from 3456?
If this is the situation, I suggest a call to MetroLine
(http://www.merlinmagix.com) since what you describe should work. If
not, could you please explain the situation a little more fully?

No, I have one extension that I would like to block from making Long
Distance and Toll calls.
I have assigned the extenstion in the DISALLOW TO to Disallow List 7
which is a default disallow list that is blocks calls to 976, 10-10,
and a few others.
I believe that is done right, but the extension can still make those
kinds of calls. I think there is some other step that needs to be
done to enable the restrictions, but I have not been able to figure it
out. It may be something to do with ARS?

Hello Rubendn,
OK, there may be an easier way to do this using call restrictions
instead of the disallow lists. I am not so sure about long distance
calls (though I expect those to be covered), but to disable toll
calls, you should use something like:
Extensions -> Restriction -> 2345 -> (enter) -> (toll restricted) ->
(enter)
to disable toll calls on extension 2345. If this does not cover all
the cases, let me know so I can do some more research.

I tried that and I even tried the total restriction just to check and
it still allows calls.
Looking through the manual, it looks like it has something to do with
the Automatic Route Selection, but I can't figure it out.

Hello Rubendn,
Hmm. This gets a little more complicated. There are a few other
settings that may be applicable. Please check:
- the mode is Hybrid / PBX (to enable automatic route selection)
- when you dial 9 (or whatever you use to access ARS), you get an
error tone when attempting to use a "total restriction" extension
- do the tables defining local numbers include wild card characters
that may cause the number to be classified as "local" instead of
"toll"?
The feature reference (a big download) at
http://www.merlinmagix.com/manuals/721110_1.pdf
on page 90/91 (118/119 in the PDF) has a pretty complicated figure
that illustrates the interactions. When you walk through this figure,
do the settings you use appear to be complimentary to this figure?
Page 100 also has some relevant material - a comment on 10xxx equal
access codes being routed over the "main pool" and notes that use of
the 1 prefix may be needed so ARS can detect toll calls.
Based on feedback on these items, I should be able to help you make
the appropriate settings. I will continue to do some research to see
if other settings may also apply.
