I'm looking for information on my great grandfather. He was an artist
and muralist by the name of William Teft Schwarz. He painted the
murals for a World's Fair but I'm not sure which one - it may have
been St. Louis. Any information you can offer would be most
appreciated.

Hello ccynann

There is a Wilhelm von Schwarz-Sendborn who was involved in World
Fairs, but in Austria in the 1870´s. Is it possible that this is your
Great Grandfather?

Best regards

Thanks so much for looking into this and getting back to me. No.
That was not my grandfather. My grandfather, I think, was born in
Kansas. I could be wrong about that but I don't think so. Thanks
again.

Hello ccynann-ga,

While I have not found him in connection with a World's Fair --
perhaps the information is not on the Web -- I have found several
pages mentioning William Tefft Schwarz (note spelling of middle name).

He was apparently the grandson of William Tefft, a prominent citizen
of Syracuse, NY. His father was Adolph H. Schwarz, also prominent in
Syracuse, and his mother was Mary C. Tefft.

He was born on July 27, 1888, in Syracuse.

He was apparently most associated with Vermont, and lived in Sandgate,
Bennington County, VT. He was an alternate delegate from Sandgate to
the 1948 Republican Convention, and did some painting and illustrating
there.

not list anything regarding Mr. Schwarz's death]

He is also listed as illustrator of an article called "The Art Bogy",
by Gilbert Seldes, in The Saturday Evening Post, January 12, 1929.

I hope that this information is helpful.
