I need the names of two US manufacturers of chrome or mylar spiral wrap. If you can not find two US manufacturers, I will settle for Canadian, Mexican or European manufacturers. In particular, I am looking for the spiral wrap used on Harley motorcycles. I will need the name, address and phone number of the manufacturer. I have already looked at Thomas Register and had no luck. If you can not find two manufacturers, I will also settle for one if they have the product available. |

The reason you cannot find it under "wrap" is that it is typically sold as "LOOM", dating back to the days when wires were protected from abrasion by woven fabric sleeves. Consider this web site for one version: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/rodi/lichwilo.html |

I forgot to add: Searching Google under chrome wire loom gives mostly retail versions. However, I suspect that the manufacturers will show up; also you can check the Thomas register. I remember your first attempt at this question. I knew than that "spiral wrap" wasn't the right term, but until I asked a motorcycle buddy of mine did I get the correct name. |

Ah, well--I might as well add a third comment in a row. I looked in Thomas Register, and did not find your loom. But then I realized that this is nothing more than a plastic tube that is spirally cut. So, searching Thomas under "tube spiral cut" I found an actual listing. Here are the first two listings: Tubing Spiral Cut ============================= Spiratex Co. 6333-T Cogswell Rd., P.O. Box 74278 Romulus, MI 48174 USA Tel: 800-722-8519 Fax: 734-722-1580 Or Call: 734-722-0100 Product Description Specialists In Custom & Standard Tubing, All Thermoplastic Resins Including UHMW P/E, ISO 9002 Registered, Tight Tolerances, Long Or Short Runs, In House Tooling Construction ============================== Calpex Plastics Inc. 2570 Jason Ct. Oceanside, CA 92056 USA Tel: 760-940-6056 Fax: 760-940-6047 Product Description Mfr. Of Spirally Cut Plastic Tubing For Bundling Wires, Cables, Tubing & Hose ========================== To get your chrome surface, you would have to arrange to have the tubing metallized by someone, possibly the cutter. Metallization, typically vacuum metallization, is a very common procedure. For metal wraps, typically this would be done as a different procedure. Flat metal strip is first chromed, and then would be wound around a mandrel. Basically this is a spring, and spring manufacturers are very plentiful. In summary, I rather suspect that this is a product that each person has made locally by a company that does NOT specialize in making the tubing. Instead, they make a product or service that can be used as this kind of wrap. Now if you are talking about "locked" spiral tubing such as seen on armored electrical wire (also commonly called BX), THAT is a completely different product. |

Your third comment is pretty good. The product is, in fact, called spiral wrap. I did a search on Thomas Register and called about every spiral wrap manufacturer in the country. None carry mylar or chrome plated spiral wrap. BTW, my web site, http://cableorganizer.com, sells a lot of wire loom and braided sleeving -- including mylar versions of both so I am familiar with wire loom. I'll try calling your leads on Monday. --Paul Holstein CableOrganizer.com |
