In early 1993 in a gallery in Taipei, Taiwan (not sure exactly which one), I saw the work of a contemporary Chinese/Taiwanese artist. The works appeared to be oil on canvas in neutral colors, with Chinese calligraphy and painted water droplets dripping down the canvas. Who was the artist? | |

I think you might be talking about Hung Liu. I'm not familiar with her work as far back as 1993 but what she does now probably wouldn't be considered "photorealistic" as such. However, the water droplets you describe are one of the more defining elements of her style. She has a piece in the permanent collection at the Kemper Museum in Kansas City. You can view it here, along with a short biography: http://www.kemperart.org/permanent/works/Liu.asp Here are a few more links I found: http://www.artnet.com/ag/fulltextsearch.asp?searchstring=Hung+Liu http://www.renabranstengallery.com/liu.html I hope that helps. Even if she is not the artist you had in mind, the paintings are worth looking at. She's an amazing artist. Tim |
