I had my color slides put on a CD. I can view them only as a
slideshow. I want to download them to my hard drive so I can print
them and E-mail them. The file name is: DzIE143.mpv Also MPEG
video/audio stream.

Hi,

I can tell you how to automatically save each frame of the video to a
BMP file, you would then need to delete the duplicates, because I
assume that each picture is displayed for a few seconds, then you
could use something to automatically convert all the BMP files to JPEG
files, which you could then print and e-mail. This would require a
download of 2 different programs and some hard drive space for saving
all the BMP files, but it is very easy to do. Please let me know if
this is the answer you're looking for and I will post it as such.

Thanks.

That's what I want to do but I haven't figured out how. Can you tell
me the steps to get the individual pictures on my hard drive? I will
then convert them to JPG format
I have tried the media player and movie maker without success. They
don't seem to like the format of my CD I am able to see the slide show
using Windows Media player but no further.

Hi,

Please go to http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1.5.4.zip?download
From there please click on one of the links that looks like a little
file on the right of the screen with 615KB written next to it. That
should start the download for you.
When you have the zip file on your computer, please extract the files
to a directory of your choice (using Winzip, Winrar or any application
that supports zip files). These are the application files for
virtualdub. Please then start virtualdub.exe. Then use File->Open
Video File to open your .mpv, or you can just drag and drop it on the
virtualdub window.

Then choose File->Save Image Sequence from the virtualdub menu bar,
choose the general filename you want 'Filename prefix', choose the
path you want to save the images to, and the filetype. BMP will take
quite a lot of space, TGA might be preferable if you're short on HDD
space.

Then just press 'Ok' and let it run, when it finishes you should have
each frame of the video saved as a BMP or TGA file in the location you
specified. You can then delete the duplicate frames, either manually
or by writing a small batch file (or I could write you a Java
application, if you tell me how how the images are repeated). Then you
can use a batch image converter such as the one that comes with
PaintShopPro to convert the images to whatever format you like.

I hope this answers your question, if you have any problems or require
any clarifications please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks.

Help. Instead of downloading one of each picture, I now have 22,000
slides downloaded! Where did I go wrong? I suppose I can cut and
paste one of each to a new folder folder and delete the rest. As I
watched the process, the first picture showed up and then after a
while it was overlapped by the second picture. This occupied about the
first 200 slides or so and then after about 500 slides the third
picture began to fade in, etc.

Hi,

I specified that in my clarification request and in the answer,
because this process will extract each frame of the video and save it
as an image to the disk, but since each image appears in the video
several times over several frames, then you'll have the same image
several times.

From what you seem to say, each picture appears for about 4 seconds in
the video?

If you tell me precisely which pictures you want to keep, I can write
a Java program to delete the others, but you seem to have only 100
different pictures in the first place, so yes it would just involve
copying over every 200th picture to another location and deleting the
rest. Sorry I didn't make it clearer that this would happen in both my
clarification and the answer.

If you need any more help, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks.
