In 1973 I had a great toy that I would love to get for my daughter today. It looked like a TV with a record player on top, but instead of a real TV it was a screen with a slide projector. It came with a book, a film strip (a single vertical piece of cardboard), and record. You could put the record on, load the film strip in the top, and then it would read the story in the book and advance to the next slide at the appropriate times. It was a great toy for learning to read. While searching on google I found the Kenner give-a-show projector but this seems different in several respects 1) the kenner give a show is handheld & projects onto wall, whereas the thing I had was more like a 10" TV, rear-projected onto its own screen 2) kenner was just pictures, the thing I had was a record player too & filmstrip advanced automatically keyed by a sound. |
