Hello, surgitech-ga!

I thought I would "tackle" (no pun intended) your question. My husband
is an avid fisherman so I am sympathetic to anyone who likes the
sport!

You specifically asked for methods of searching for companies, rather
than just a list of names. Therefore, I have supplied you with several
different directions for searching. Just be mindful that searches
bring up all sorts of links of interest, so you will be quite fruitful
if you are patient and look down different "paths."

I have also given you some search words to use. However, do not be
afraid to improvise on your search words, either!

Some search strategies:

*******************
www.business.com.
********************

1.Click on Retail and Consumer Services

2.Click on Sporting Goods
You are brought to a list of options, including "Sportfishing
Equipment:
http://www.business.com/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sporting_goods/

3.Click on Sportsfishing Equipment, which brings you to this page:
http://www.business.com/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sporting_goods/sportfishing_equipment/

On this page, you can see various category links at the top,
including:
 Bait, Lures & Flies
Distributors and Wholesalers (highlighted, which shows this is the
page you are currently viewing)
 Fishing Line
 Fishing Weight and Sinkers
 Rods and Reels

Since you are currently viewing the page for Distributors and
Wholesalers, you can click on any of the names that seem applicable to
your needs. (Not all will be in the countries you are interested in)

Also, not all will have e-mail addresses, but most all will have a
contact link on their website.

For example:

Fisherman's World
http://www.business.com/bdcframe.asp?ticker=&src=http%3A//rd.business.com/index.asp%3Fbdcz%3Di.l.l.ml.e%26bdcr%3D22%26bdcu%3Dhttp%253A//www.fishermansworldstore.com/home.htm%26bdcs%3D8C126890-6FE6-4C4A-A23D-55DDD652D0D3%26bdcf%3Dcec937a1-c529-11d3-82c5-00c04f01021c%26bdcp%3D%26partner%3Dbdc%26title%3DFishermans%2520World&back=http%3A//www.business.com/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sportin
_goods/sportfishing_equipment/&path=/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sporting_goods/sportfishing_equipment

Click on contact link at bottom of front page for their address and
phone.

Fisherman's World
Dave's Parts & Service
1312 U.S. Hwy. 19 N.
Holiday, Florida 34691
Phone: (727)942-8944
Fax: (727)942-9648

If you look on the upper, right hand side of the page, you will see a
box titled "Popular Searches." Clicking on those links will often
bring up some new references. I clicked on "Sport Fishing Equipment"
and was brought here:
http://www.business.com/search/rslt_default.asp?query=sport%20fishing%20equipment

From that new list, I clicked on "Sportfishing Equipment Distributors
and Wholesalers"
and was brought here:
http://www.business.com/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sporting_goods/sportfishing_equipment/distributors_and_wholesalers/

"Redl Sports Distributors" caught my eye since it is a supplier to
Canada.I clicked on the link, which brought me to their page:
http://www.business.com/bdcframe.asp?ticker=&src=http%3A//rd.business.com/index.asp%3Fbdcz%3Di.l.l.ml.e%26bdcr%3D8%26bdcu%3Dhttp%253A//www.redlsports.com/%26bdcs%3D8C126890-6FE6-4C4A-A23D-55DDD652D0D3%26bdcf%3D64bad8c2-eed7-11d3-8f57-00d0b7473557%26bdcp%3D%26partner%3Dbdc%26title%3DRedl%2520Sports%2520Distributors&back=http%3A//www.business.com/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sporting_goods
sportfishing_equipment/distributors_and_wholesalers/&path=/directory/retail_and_consumer_services/sporting_goods/sportfishing_equipment/distributors_and_wholesalers

"Redl Sports was established in 1954 and services the requirements of
fishing tackle and outdoor retailers primarily in Western Canada, with
limited distribution throughout the rest of North America.

In our 30,000 sq.ft. warehouse we have an inventory of over 18,000
stock keeping units year round to meet the immediate needs of both the
specialized retailer and their customer.

Their contact information, including an e-mail link, is up in the
left-hand corner of the page.

Important note:

If you knew the actual names of these fishing suppliers beforehand,
you would not get such lengthy links to their website. If, for
instance, I typed the name "Redl Sports Distributors" into
www.google.com, I would find a link to their website, which would
simply be http://www.redlsports.com/

Therefore, if some of the links to sites on business.com do not work,
you can always type the name into a Google Search and see if it pops
up there.

Google Search Strategies
*************************

1. Search term: US AND +fishing equipment importers

Example:

The first link was for a business trade directory, that may prove
useful:
http://www.importexporthelp.com/dircom27.htm

International business trade directory features 3,700 marine equipment
importers, boating equipment importers, boating supply importers,
fishing equipment importers and marine supply importers in 124
different countries

====

2. Search term: US AND +fishing equipment wholesalers

Example:

"Welcome To Swift Worldwide - wholesalers of fishing tackle and ..."

Clicking on the link brought me to their website:
http://www.swiftworldwide.co.uk/

Swift Worldwide is an importer and manufacture of fishing tackle
covering all types of fishing - saltwater, freshwater and game. The
Company holds over 10,000 lines in stock and services fishing tackle
retailers in the UK and in Europe. All items are despatched same day
by courier to ensure safe delivery and continuity of supply. The
Company is run by fishing enthusiasts who choose the products we stock
and use the products we sell - surely the best endorsement.

From their site, click on the contact link for their e-mail address

===

3. Search term: US AND +fishing equipment retailers

Example:

The first link:

"Discount and Wholesale Fishing Tackle and Equipment Retailers.."

Clicking on the link brought me to a lengthy list of retailers:
http://www.fishingtackleguide.com/discountstores.html

(Notice there are other links you can access on the left side of the
page)

==

Looking further down the initial search results page, I saw a link
with UK information:

"Fishing Tackle Shops, Online Retailers and Auctions in England UK.."

Clicking on the link brought me here:
http://www.fishingnet.com/England/fishing_tackle_shops.htm

==

To expand my search to Canada and the UK, I would simply change my
search strategy as follows:

UK AND +fishing equipment retailers
://www.google.com/search?q=UK+AND+%2Bfishing+equipment+retailers&btnG=Google+Search&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

UK AND +fishing equipment wholesalers
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=UK+AND+%2Bfishing+equipment+wholesalers&btnG=Google+Search

UK AND +fishing equipment importers
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=UK+AND+%2Bfishing+equipment+importers&btnG=Google+Search

Canada AND +fishing equipment retailers
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Canada++AND+%2Bfishing+equipment+importers&btnG=Google+Search

Canada AND +fishing equipment wholesalers
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Canada++AND+%2Bfishing+equipment+wholesalers

Canada AND +fishing equipment importers
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Canada++AND+%2Bfishing+equipment+importers&btnG=Google+Search

******************
Yellowpages search
*******************

The major disadvantage to a Yellow pages search is that there is no
link to a website for an e-mail address. However, you will get the
address and phone number.

A search example:

www.yellowpages.com

Search by: Type of business
Enter name or type of business: fishing equipment wholesalers
Select a state : Nationwide /or a Canadian province

On following page: Select Fishing Equipment and Supplies-Whsle (24
listings)

Fishing equipment wholesalers list:
http://www.yellowpages.com/asp/search/SearchResult.asp?search=fishing+equipment+wholesalers&state=NATIONWIDE&city=&zipcode=&areacode=&page=tax&searchcategory=7204&buscnt=0%2B0%2B0%2B24

Again, you may change you business search to fishing equipment
retailers, importers, etc.

You may also access the International Yellow pages by clicking on
"International Directories."

The UK page is at:
http://search.yell.com/search/DoSearch

=====

**************
www.dmoz.org
**************

Search terms:

Example:

fishing equipment
http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=fishing+equipment

You may also click on the link for UK on the front search page:

A search for fishing equipment brought up this page:
http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=fishing+equipment&all=yes&cs=&cat=Regional%2FEurope%2FUnited_Kingdom

(My experience, however, is that the same companies seem to appear
regardless of the location)

******************
Fishing Magazines
*****************

A Google search for fishing trade magazines brought up a few general
websites.

Fishingworks.com
http://magazines.fishingworks.com/

There are numerous links on the left side that may be helpful, such as
"tackle manufacturers" and "tackle retailers"

===

I hope these search instructions prove useful to you. Please let me
know if they are helpful in finding the informtion you need. I have
tried to make the explanation as clear as possible, but it is always
interesting to hear from the other side!

Further, if any of the links fail to work, don't hesitate to ask for
clarificaton.
