About three months ago I paid two web page makers a lot of money to
make my professional web page (web.mit.edu/jmilgram/www) and my wife's
professional webpage(home.attbi.com/~rhgoodale). After all this tikme,
they do not show up on Google when doing a search. What is necesssary
to make it work.

As you know attbi has been bought by comcast. What needs to be done so
people using search engines will find my wife's web page when the
transition occurs. The web site name changes as dictated by Comcast.

Sincerely,
Jerome H. Milgram

Hello jmilgram,

First I need to let you know that I am not Google Employee.
Researchers at Google Answers are contracted to answer questions, but
have no inside knowledge of the Google Search Engine, other than what
is available for everyone on the internet and personal experience.
Having said that, I still believe that I will be able to help you.

You can request that Google add your website to the Google Database
here: ://www.google.com/addurl.html Note that with the vast number
of websites the Googlebot has to index and find, it may take days or
weeks before it will get to your website.

Another way to get listed on Google is to have another website,
currently listed on Google, to link to your website. In fact, the more
"good" websites (as determined by the Google algorithms) that link to
your websites, the higher ranking you will have on the Google search
engine. Try exchanging links with your collegues or friends who are
already listed on Google.

I know that there is no other website currently linking to your
website because a search for: links:http://home.attbi.com/~rhgoodale/
and links:web.mit.edu/jmilgram/www/ does not turn up any results. This
shows all the websites on Google that currently link to your website.

Another important thing to remember is that the Google bot is not
human, and because it functions using mathematical formulas, it might
see your website different than what a human surfer would see. To see
roughly what the Google bot sees when it visits your website, you can
use this link:
http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/sim_spider.cgi

I did not see any problems with both websites, but do suggest that you
put a link to http://web.mit.edu/jmilgram/www/ at this URL:
http://web.mit.edu/jmilgram/ in an index.html page.

In summary, submit both websites to Google using the Add Url feature.
When the website moves from attbi to comcast, you will want to submit
the website again. You should note on the attbi website now that the
URL will soon be at comcast. This will make it so that when people
search for the attbi website, there will be a link to the comcast
website in the Google cache (a snapshop of the current page). If attbi
will not put up a redirection for you to the new website, this is the
closest you can get to putting up a redirect.

I hope this is the answer you were expecting. Please let me know if
you need any clarifications, and I will do my best to further assist
you as best as I can.
