If someone is using a cloaking script, and I have sent the proof...why
hasn't Google done anything?

Click the cached version of

Why do they have a blank default / redirect page that is full of
keywords?

Thanks,

Greetings, bojohn!

I can certainly understand how frustrating it is to see a competitor's
site ranked above yours in Google Search Results when it is obvious
that they are "cheating".

However, when I click on Google's "cached" version now, all I get is a
blank page. It's been removed.

I *was* able to find a version of this site from June 5, 2002 on the
Internet Archive Wayback Machine:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020605040505/http://www.everytruckjob.com/index.html

You're right, on this version of their webpage, the menu hyperlinks at
the bottom of the page are invisible. But notice the very obvious,
visible vertical dividers ( | ) between the invisible links. And since
I'd think that they'd want those hyperlinks to be visible so that
prospective "customers" can click on them, I believe that the
invisible text is accidental rather than deliberate.

To me, this looks a lot more like incompetence on the part of their
"web designer" than like any attempt on their part to cheat.

You don't say what method you used to report this site to Google.

Was it this one?
From Google's "Webmaster Guidelines":

Note that the information on this page says:
---------------------------------------------------
If your Google search returns a result that you suspect is spam,
please let us know using this form. We investigate each report of
deceptive practices thoroughly and take appropriate action when abuse
is uncovered. -->***At minimum, we will use the data from each spam
report
to improve our site ranking and filtering algorithms. The result of
this should be visible over time as the quality of our searches gets
even better. In especially egregious cases, we will remove spammers
from our index immediately, so they do not show up in search results
at all. Other steps will be taken as necessary.
---------------------------------------------------

What they are saying here is that they reserve the right to penalize
the website, to merely change their algorithms (which may eventually
penalize the website in question), or -- to do nothing at all.

At any rate, this is all moot.

This is *not* what the EveryTruckJob.com page looks like right now.
Google will only take action on *current* infractions on a site, not
on anything it might have been doing in the past.

However, while the invisible text has been fixed, it looks like their
incompetent "web designer" has introduced some other design problems
into their site. I'd say that's penalty enough as it is. In addition
to making site navigation a little difficult, it's not going to look
terribly professional to anyone who visits them.

Rather than worrying about whether Google is going to sanction a
competitor's site, there's a much more important and exciting Question
to ask:

What can you do to improve your own site's Page Rank and Search
Results Ranking?

If you will post your URL here in a Clarification (click on the
"Clarify Question" button), I would be delighted to analyze your site
and give you all sorts of suggestions on how you could do exactly
that.

I hope that this Answer has provided for you in a clear,
understandable way the Answers to your Questions:

"If someone is using a cloaking script, and I have sent the
proof...why hasn't Google done anything?"
and
"Why do they have a blank default / redirect page that is full of
keywords?"

However, if you have questions about anything in the above
information, please post them in a Clarification as well.

Remember: Do Not Rate this Answer yet -- post your URL in a
Clarification, and we'll see what sort of excellent things we can do
for your website to improve its Page Rank and Ranking in Google Search
Results!

I look forward to your response, and to getting a look at your
website.

Okay, bojohn!

I did a "View Source" on the Cached version of their web page at
http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:JNwBtetRPVEJ:www.everytruckjob.com/default.html+%22%2Bwww.everytruckjob.%2Bcom%22

and I see the invisible text to which you are referring.

However, by using a Comet Web Search ( http://search.cometsystems.com
), we can find out the date that Google cached that page:

"The page you see is not a LIVE page of
http://www.everytruckjob.com/default.html.
It is an archived copy dated Mar 31, 2003."
http://search.cometsystems.com/search.php?qry=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.everytruckjob.com&gg_ca=JNwBtetRPVEJ:www.everytruckjob.com%2Fdefault.html&origin=unknown&tmpl=0A

It looks as if they got busted, then cleaned up their act. The page as
it currently exists has plenty of legitimate text with the critical
keywords to justify a good Search Engine placement.

Post your URL for me, and we'll see if we can give them a real run for
their money. ;-)

Thanks for the information and help. A long time ago my site did quite
well, I had a part time college student working on it...apparently
there were issues with some hiidden text or links...something and I
have never been able to get back in the rankings.

We are a clean easy to navigate site and the truckers love us in their
quest for a better truck driving job. My URL is
http://www.bestdriverjobs.com

Could you please give me some advise?

Thanks,

Jim

I would be delighted to do so!

My husband's parents are coming tomorrow to visit for a week, so it
may take me a couple of days, but bear with me, and we'll get you
fixed right up!

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

Hi, Jim!

The in-laws have been keeping us pretty busy the last couple of days,
leaving in the morning and getting back late in the evening. However,
we are leaving shortly for an abbreviated sight-seeing trip, and I
should be able to get to your website by midnight.

Thanks again for your patience.

Hi again, Jim!

I've had a chance to take a look at your site and come up with some
good suggestions for modifications.

1. PAGE RANK
------------
Your Page Rank is 3.

You can determine a site's Page Rank using the Google Toolbar, which
is an add-in to Microsoft Internet Explorer. You can read more about
the Toolbar, and download it, here:
http://toolbar.google.com

By comparison:

https://www.everytruckjob.com/default.html
has a Page Rank of 5.
More about Page Rank in a moment...

2. TITLE
--------
Titles are what appears as the underlined blue hyperlinks on a page of
Google Search Results, and what appears in the top header of your
browser when you are on a website.

One of the VERY first things the Googlebot sees on a web page is the
<title>, and so it is a very important factor when trying to get
ranked high in Search Results.

If you have pages on your site with very different content, you should
define very different Titles for each of them. This way, it is more
likely that at least one of your pages will show up in a Google
Search, depending on what keywords are entered by the searcher.

Your competitor's main page Title is:
<TITLE>Truck driving jobs with Trucking Companies. Truck drivers,
Owner Operators A better trucking job, a better driving future.
EveryTruckJob.com Truck driving, truck companies - simply Trucking
employment at its best.</TITLE>
This is a bit longer than recommended -- the Title really should be
about one line; however, they have done a good job of including what
they felt were the critical words.

Your main page Title is:
<TITLE>Truck driving jobs with Trucking Companies. Truck drivers,
Truckers Owner Operators A better trucking job, a better driving
future. BestDriverJobs.com Truck driving, truck companies - it is
Trucking employment at its best.</TITLE>
I really recommend that you shorten this. We *do* know that the
Googleys are continually tweaking the Googlebot to improve its ability
to detect spamming attempts, and a Title this long might be considered
exactly that.

Furthermore, your Title is almost a word-for-word copy of your
competitor's. If you are not careful, you may find your competitor's
attorney knocking on your door.

You might consider:
<title>Truck driving Jobs with Trucking Companies for Truckers and
Owner / Operators</title>
This cuts your Title down to a reasonable length, while retaining the
most important "keywords".

Review trucking companies by hiring locations

3. <meta> TAGS
--------------

At their first glance, Search Engines need to see content in about the
first 250 html characters of a page. Your main web page has a lot of
extraneous tags that don't really do much except make it harder for
Search Engines to read it. I recommend that you change:
<META NAME="GENERATOR" CONTENT="Adobe PageMill 3.0 Mac">
<TITLE>Truck driving jobs with Trucking Companies. Truck drivers,
Truckers Owner Operators A better trucking job, a better driving
future. BestDriverJobs.com Truck driving, truck companies - it is

4. JAVASCRIPT
-------------
Your site has a considerable amount of Javascript. Especially when
located at the beginning of the html code, this can really hinder the
ability of the Googlebot to fully access your text, and because the
Googlebot assigns importance to things based on where they appear on
the page, putting Javascript first on the page tells the Googlebot
that your text isn't as important.

You should pull out the chunks of javascript into "include" files,
such as:
<script src="/js/part1.js"></script>

Likewise, you need to pull out your Cascading Style Sheet (CSS)
definitions into separate included files, such as:

<link href="answers.css" rel="stylesheet">

5. DUPLICATE CONTENT and SPAMMING
---------------------------------

You have at least two sites with a considerable amount of duplicate
content. Google also considers this a deliberate attempt to unfairly
manipulate Search Results. I recommend that you either change one of
these sites to be TOTALLY different, or combine them into one site:

Domain name: BESTDRIVERJOBS.COM
Domain name: 1TRUCKDRIVERJOBS.COM

Registrant:
 EVISION MARKETING
 3015 10TH AVENUE
 NA
 TUSCALOOSA, AL 35401
 US
Domain name: BESTDRIVERJOBS.COM

    3015 10TH AVENUE
    NA
    TUSCALOOSA, AL 35401
    US
    205-345-2042

Your site http://www.1truckdriverjobs.com has NO Page Rank. This may
be due to all the invisible spamming text you have included on this
website. Google does NOT take kindly to this kind of deliberate
attempt to manipulate Search Results. This is one of the BEST ways to
get your site banned from Google in a hurry. I recommend that you
remove this immediately:

"TTruck Driver Job Directory - 1 Truck Driver Jobs .com Info.com Truck
Driving Jobs - The Best Owner Operator Resource for Trucking, Driver
Job and Trucking jobs with company or companies - Find a Driving Job
or Driving jobs including Driver, Owner Operator Van or Owner Operator
with company or companies. Trucking Employment with company or
companies.

Driving Jobs - The Best Owner Operator Resource for Trucking, Driver
Job and Trucking jobs with company or companies - Find a Driving Job

If you clean up all the items I have suggested, I think you will find
that it will result in improved Search Results Ranking for your site.

information, please post a Request for Clarification, and I will be

Just wanted to thank you in a big way....I have another college
student working with me now, hopefully we can clear things up...
Also, can I give you another tip for your help?

If I can't get it right I can't be in business and you've put me on
the right track...thanks again.

And can I specify you when I have another question?

Jim,

I am DELIGHTED that you feel that I have been of assistance to you.
While the fees that come with Answering Questions are nice, there is
no bigger thrill for me than when a Customer indicates that my Answer
has really made a difference for them!

Sometimes Customers are not at all pleased to be told that everything
is not hunky-dory. My philosophy is that I have a responsibility to
provide the Truth in my Answer, even if the news is not so good --
this is the only way that things can be improved. It is always a
pleasure to work with a Customer who shares this philosophy, and who
has a genuine desire to make things the best that they can possibly
be.

<< Also, can I give you another tip for your help? >>

Yes, you can always give a Researcher additional compensation, even if
you have already Rated your Answer, which closes it out. You just post
a new Question with a Subject line that is something like "For
Researcher aceresearcher-ga ONLY" for a fee of $2.00 (a Researcher
only gets 75% of the fee, but 100% of a tip). When the Researcher
"Answers" this new Question, you can then Rate the Answer and add on
any additional amount of compensation you desire as a tip.

<< And can I specify you when I have another question? >>

The Editors have told us that they will honor a Customer's request for
a specific Researcher, and most Researchers are quite courteous about
leaving such Questions alone. Again, you just need to specify
something like "For Researcher aceresearcher-ga ONLY" in the Subject
line.

I would be delighted provide you any assistance in the future should
you wish to request my services.

THANK YOU again for your excellent feedback -- it just made my day.

Best Wishes!

Is there any researchers who work as consultants to help fix and rank sites?

Thanks,

Jim

Hello again, Jim!

When you say "help fix and rank sites", I'm not sure if I'm
interpreting your request properly. Google's automatic rank
calculation software assigns Page Rank, and there are no human
decisions involved in that process (other than deciding what
characteristics to look at and how heavily they should be weighted.

Could you offer a little more explanation of what you're looking for?

Thanks,
