In The Nation, September 21, 1992, Vol. 255 ; No. 8 ; Pg. 272; Jonathan Kozol wrote an article with the quote "I am in the business of developing minds to meet a market demand." The quote was by Elaine Mosley. Where was this quote originally made or printed? The Nation nor Jonathan Kozol knows. You cannot find it by searching for the entire quote on Google. It could be in parts 3-5 of the "Learning in America" series that ran on PBS in 1989, a co production of Mac Neil/Lehrer Productions and WETA. I need the citation if I was going to use the quote, not from the Nation, but from the original source. |

It's possible Kozol heard this said rather than saw it in a published source. You could try asking Mosley herself: Betty Shabazz International Charter School 7823 South Ellis Chicago, Illinois 60619 Contact: Dr. Elaine Mosley, Director, 773/651-1221 (voice); 773/651-0302 (fax) http://www.isbe.state.il.us/charter/charterschoolsinbrief.htm (website refers to 2002-2003 academic year, so is current). |
